Shivalikwala Doon School is an institution with an difference in the city. Its intentions are that all students should be led to the knowledge of human values.

The entire education system has been so planned so as to lay emphasis on developing skills, in using English language correctly and effectively, which is the medium of instruction. The school instills a sense of confidence among students to brighten their proficiency in the process of learning. The building has been so planned that the children will find it a most convenient place for the process of learning. There is an accurate place for each child’s potential to be shaped out and formed into a useful character for the uplifting of society. The qualified staff is capable enough to promote high sense of discipline, courage, self-control, fellow feeling and loyalty amongst students.

Shivalikwala Doon School aims at total development of the learner’s personality in affective and psychomotor domains. It emphasises on nourishing and nurturing the emotional base to the fullest extent for the child’s own development and that of society as well.

The tiny tots are looked after with all personal care and love. There is a separate playground for tiny tots with swings and flowers and trees all around. Children play and learn through demonstration. This is a special feature to inculcate the spirit of fellow feeling and service towards each other. Colourful classrooms provide much more effective learning . A child given wider care excels in all the spheres of life — mentally, physically, morally and spiritually. The school helps the students to become truly oriented people of character.

The teaching-learning process is moulded in such a practical and effective way that it makes them respectful and studious. Children are moulded to understand, appreciate and enjoy what they are taught. We aim in inculcating a spirit of divergent thinking skills in the student.

The school is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi. The school was established in 1991 by the Shivalik Public Welfare Trust, Ludhiana. It is headed by Mr Sunil Maria. The management is essentially bent towards the cause of promoting excellent education.

Religion is anything that is connected with work

Mohini Albert “My involvement with education has been for 21 years. And I have explored that education is an individual’s life-long travel into the realms of the unknown. The Principal is an educational leader. The role of the Principal transforms with the changing social needs and developments”, says Ms Mohini Albert. Mrs Mohini Albert has been the Principal for last six years. To be effective, she believes in leading by example. Hence she adheres to all the values like punctuality, hard work and discipline herself.

  • On education

Education is not just a head full of facts. It is knowing what one wants and where he can get it. Good education enables one to pick out the most important things from life. It makes one to get into more intelligent trouble. Ms Albert feels that co-curricular activities are particularly essential as mostly students take to such activities with much personal involvement. It helps a child to open up and be informal in behaviour.

  • On religion

Religion means to me that each work undertaken by a person is done with great sincerity and honesty. We teach no particular religion but the religion of ‘humanity’ — to have a good value system which they can carry in their lives even when they leave the school. Moral education is taught through parables, stories. It makes an impact on students and I have seen the changes in the behaviour of the students. A secular outlook is developed by giving equal importance to festivals.

  • On discipline

Mohini Albert is strict about discipline as she feels nothing can be achieved in life without it. The most important ingredient of discipline is ‘punctuality’, hence neither any teacher nor any student comes late to school. No student is given any relaxation. If a student forgets to get his lunch, the parents are not allowed to enter once the portals of the school close. The student would be provided lunch from ‘mess’ The teachers, too, are dressed uniformly. wear similar sarees on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I personally check their bags to see whether they have arranged books neatly. Now the students say that the habit of neatness helps them in keeping their rooms neat and tidy much to the delight of their parents. — AA

Pollution

Rupali Maria, class V

Radhika, class VIII

Mehak Mital, class VIII

Pollution is dangerous

dangerous why?

Pollution is spreading

day by day

noise, water, air pollution

these all are dangerous

we have to stop it

if we don’t stop it

it is very dangerous

for our health.

Ankita, class VI

O, my mother

O, my Mother

you are so nice

you are so good.

You taught me how to walk

you taught me how to speak,

you send me to school to read and write

you always showed me a right way.

I promise I shall ‘one-day reach the sky’

And make you proud

My dear mother I love You.

Payal Jain, class IX

If I were the minister

If I were the minister,

signing all the papers and registers

no difficulty to face, free from all problems.

And with all the time to waste

Givings interviews on TV

Sometime on Sony, sometimes on Starplus

Sometimes on Zee News.

reading the newspaper.

and looking where is my name

in various columns, scandals and scams,

Always enjoying the life

celebrating weekends

not working throughout the week

instead of working for the poor

and weak

So I would pray to God

Never make me a minister.

Radhika Thapar, class X

Fashion

This is the age of fashion

When everyone is having some passion.

Students don’t study during their session,

they only care about the latest fashion.

Girls are always bothered about their flick

and boys are always thinking of looking fit.

No one bothers about their studies

they are mad after fashion,

For looking good they put
goggles and bell bottoms

to catch other’s attention

but fashion is not everything.

we must have a good character.

Jaya

Parents

Parents are oceans of love,

they do not curve.

I worship them.

They are attached with me like attached gum

they are like flower loving and happy.

Till they are with me nobody could make me feel shabby.

Parents are parents whether they are good or bad

when I see them I am very glad
