Show-cause notice to Virbhadra Shimla, November 14 In the complaint it was alleged that Mr Virbhadra Singh had issued a press statement with regard to an inquiry report submitted by the one-member commission headed by Mr Kainthla pertaining to the incidents of lawlessness in the city on March 5 and 6, 1998. Mr Kainthla alleged that despite his warning, Mr Virbhadra Singh issued the statement that the probe report was biased, politically motivated, false and manipulated. He said under the circumstances, it was clear that the acts of Mr Virbhadra Singh were calculated to bring disrepute to the commission, which was an offence under Section 10-A of the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, punishable with simple imprisonment up to six months, fine, or both. While issuing a show-cause notice to Mr Virbhadra Singh, Mr Justice Arun Kumar Goel directed the respondent to file his reply within six weeks. |

plantation destroyed Dalhousie, November 14 Stating this, Mr, Ajay Yadav, Superintendent of Police, Chamba, said to contain drug trafficking the two enforcement agencies had joined hands and adopted a two-pronged strategy to deal with this menace. He said Mr O.P. Sharma, Superintendent of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh, spearheaded the operation. The SP said on the one hand, these agencies were making the public aware about the ill-effect of producing charas and involving local people in the drive against it, on the other, they were asking them concentrate on the alternative sources of agriculture and livestock rearing for ameliorating their socioeconomic conditions. The most important aspect of the operation was that the residents of these areas showed a hostile attitude towards the police action. Unlike Kulu and Mandi districts there was no illicit cultivation of cannabis in these areas the SP said. Yet the people of these belts were unhappy, as they could not extract charas or hashish from a bumper wild growth of cannabis. Mr Sharma, Superintendent of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh, said unlike Kulu and Mandi districts, the locals were not dependant on cannabis products. The wild growth of bhang was being used in extraction of charas or hashish and their smuggling. Mr Sharma underlined the need to continue such operations against drug abuse in future besides making the forest and revenue officials along with the locals a part of such operations. |

BJP leaders allege plot Dharamsala, November 14 Talking to mediapersons at Shahpur, the BJP leaders who belong to Union Rural Development Minister Shanta Kumar’s camp alleged that they were suspended on trumped-up charges and were not even served show cause notices or given a chance to explain their position. It was an attempt to finish him politically, Mr Padha alleged. Giving an explanation about the cartoon which had led to their suspension, the BJP leaders said the Delimitation Commission, and not the Chief Minister, was the target of the cartoon which had been stated as the reason for action against them. They said vested interests in the Shahpur BJP had misled the party leaders which had led to their suspension. |
CM inaugurates Renuka Fair Renukaji (Nahan), November 14 Talking to mediapersons on this occasion, Mr Dhumal attacked the Congress for launching a misinformation campaign against the state government and misguiding the people, first regarding the creation of new districts and now about the Delimitation Commission. He termed the Congress as a leader-less, issue-less, policy-less and direction-less party. Mr Dhumal said work to return the shamlat land to the farmers of Sirmaur district would start shortly. |

He said the subscribers met the authorities BSNL and apprised them of the crippling telecom service but of no avail. |
Postal employees hold dharna Hamirpur, November 14 They also held a rally during the lunch hours and raised anti-government slogans. A rally was also held during which union leaders Dev Raj, Gautam Chand Sharma and Suresh Kumar criticised the Central Government for ignoring their problems. Postal employees said if their demands were not met shortly they would be compelled to go on indefinite strike. |
Poll notified for panchayat posts Shimla, November 14 He said nomination papers would be filed on November 22, 23 and 25 for office-bearers of gram panchayats and panchayat samitis at the places and with the officers appointed by the District Election Officers (Panchayat). Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done on November 26. The candidates can withdraw from election on November 28 between 10 am and 3 pm. |
