Those who participated in the discussion were Dr Manmohan Singh, Dr Amarjit Singh Gorky, Mr Kulwant Jagraon and Dr Guriqbal Singh. The collective thought was that new Punjabi poetry was totally
diffrent from the earlier written Punjabi poetry. Human relations had been boldly depicted and in greater depth. But at times, the poetry had become
obscures. Kulwant Jagraon disagreed with the nomenclature of new Punjabi poetry. His
arguments was that poetry was poetry neither new nor old. There could be new trends regarding content but not form. Poetry was essentially according to him an aesthetic art with language as medium. Mr Mohandip, himself a poet said criticism for the sake of criticism was not effective. Observation should be made to throw light to understand poetry better and write better. The few observer commented upon the lack of communication in the new poetry. Listeners mostly felt that poets and critics both were finding new means of expression and new themes. |
