BVM School hog the limelight

Students of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior School, Udham Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, hogged the limelight in the 15th Punjab State Sarvhitkari Schools Meet, which concluded on Monday at Talwar, near here.

According to Mr Baljeet Singh, in charge, sports, BVM School, competition in athletics, table tennis and volleyball in u-14, u-17 and u-19 for boys as well as girls were held.

In the u-19, Gaurav Bajaj won 800 m, 1500 m and cross-country race (5 km) and was declared the best athlete. Maneet Sharma emerged victorious in the 100 m, 200 m and 400 m races and adjudged best athlete in the u-17.

In the girls’ section (u-19), BVM School team, comprising Novlena, Kalika, Ruchika and Charu Aggarwal, bagged the gold in cross-country race and in the boys’ section (u-19), Kanav Sharma clinched three gold medals (100 m, 200 m and 400 m) while Gaurav Bajaj too bagged three gold medals in 800 m, 1500 m and 5-km cross-country race.

Gagandeep Bedi lifted the gold in shot put and Ashim Sharma won 5000 m marathon. In 4x100 m relay, the team of Gaurav, Kanav, Vikrant and Sahil finished ahead of others to clinch the gold. This quartet also bagged gold in 5-km cross-country race.

Other medal winners were: Boys u-14 — Vinod (silver in 100 m and 200 m), Mohit Gupta (gold in shot put and discus throw).

Boys u-17 — Maneet Sharma — gold in 100 m, 200 m and 400 m races; Depak Sharma — gold in 800 m and 1500 m races; and Ajay Batta — silver in discus throw.

Girls u-17 — Priya Bawa — gold in 800 m, 1500 m and 3000 m races; Rupali Arora — silver in discus throw; and Manisha — silver in 400 m race.

The school team finished runners-up in volleyball (boys u-19).

Nankana school win volleyball title

Students of Nankana Sahib Public School, Ludhiana, has won volleyball titles in the girls’ section (u-16 and u-19) in the CBSE Cluster Tournament held at Kirpal Sagar Academy here.

In the tournament Harmandeep Kaur and Gurinder Kaur of this school were adjudged best players.

Handball tourney

The school handball girls and boys u-16 and u-14 stood first at the zonal-level and the second in the district-level tournament. Thirteen students of the school were selected for the state-level tournament.

GNI school students excel

Roopam Dhillon and Gurasis Pal Singh, both students of GNI Public School, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, won laurels for their school in the Punjab State Games held at Patiala from October 19 to 22, according to press note of the school.

In skating, Roopam Dhillon, a Class VII student, bagged two medals (gold in rink-II) and the silver in rink-III. In the rink-III, Gurasis Pal Singh, a Class VI student, finished third.

KVM school win trophy

Kundan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, has won runners-up trophy in the District Athletics Meet held at Khanna.

According to a press note of Ms Neena Khanna, Principal, Vaibhav Jain was adjudged best athlete in the u-14. He won golds in 100 m and high jump and bagged the bronze in 200 m race. Nikhil clinched the gold in 400 m, while Vadika Thapar won the gold in high jump.

Cricket trials

The Ludhiana District Cricket Association (LDCA) will conduct trials here at the Arya College for Boys ground on October 26 at 3.30 pm to select the Ludhiana team (u-17) for the Inter-District Cricket Tournament for the ML Markan Trophy to be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association, according to a press note of Mr Vinod Chitkara, honorary secretary, LDCA.

The players born on or after September 1, 1985, are eligible.
