Procurement operations smooth: DFSC

Ludhiana, October 3
The District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC), Ms Simarjot Kaur, today claimed that procurement of paddy was going on smoothly in the district and the farmers were being paid strictly in accordance with the MSP.

She said in a press release here that till yesterday in all 1,39,835 quintals of paddy had been purchased in Khanna mandi alone, out of which the government procurement agencies had purchased a little over 90 per cent. Between the different agencies, the Food and Supplies Department had purchased 20,302 quintals, Punsup 22,642 quintals, Markfed 24,990 quintals, Warehousing Corporation 23,084 quintals, Punjab Agro 18,196 quintals and the FCI 14,064 quintals. The millers had purchased only 16,557 quintals of paddy, in Khanna market.

According to the DSFC, total purchase of paddy in the district till date was more than 2.51 lakh quintals.

Social evils discussed during NSS camp

Ludhiana, October 3
On the sixth day of a 10-day NSS camp, organised by MTMS College, a health camp was held in Kasabad village, today. Social evils and their preventive measures were discussed and the CMO of Ludhiana spoke about female foeticide and merits of breast-feeding. He talked about the decreasing male: female ratio and discrimination faced by the girl child. He asked everyone to end this evil. Dr Kuldeep discussed about vaccination and care for pregnant women and new-borns.

Dr Inderjit, who runs a drug deaddiction centre, spoke about the misery and plight of drug addicts. The Principal of MTMS College, Dr Madanjit Sahota, presented the vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, NSS volunteers from Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College collected money for purchasing sewing machines to be distributed among needy and deserving women at a function tomorrow. Mr Jagmohan Gupta, president of the Governing Body of the college, would preside over the function.
