Atherton to feature on Harsha Online
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, September 2
Former England captain and opening batsman Michael Atherton will be the special guest on Harsha Online, the interactive one-hour programme pioneered by ESPN Star Sports, presented by Harsha Bhogle on Wednesday, September 4, at 6.30 p.m.

In an outstanding Test career, Michael Atherton scored 7,728 runs at an average of 37.69 with 16 centuries since his debut against Australia at Nottingham in 1989.

He scored 1,791 runs in the shorter version of the game at an average of 35.11 with the help of two centuries.

Atherton, known for his grit, will and determination, last played for England in the fifth Test match against Australia at The Oval in 2001. Three years earlier, he was dropped from their one-day squad after playing against Sri Lanka at Lord’s.

An articulate and assiduous Atherton was destined to captain England, but the honour came his way in not the best of circumstances. He was made captain when Graham Gooch relinquished his charge after two third of the Ashes series in 1993. Atherton was only 25 then but handled the English side with maturity and earned for England its first win in eleven matches at the The Oval. Michael Atherton, a worthy—if not spectacular—opening batsman is still hopeful of making it back to the England team.
