The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested Shah Mohammad alias Sham Mohammad, one of the associates of Chhota Shakeel and Anis Ibrahim, brother of Dawood Ibrahim, last night near a restaurant in Connaught Place and recovered a revolver and six live cartridges from his possession.

Khurana gives tips to regularise illegal colonies
New Delhi, September 2
Mr Madan Lal Khurana wants all unauthorised colonies built in the Capital up to March 31, 2002 regularised. He also desires stringent action against builders and colonisers who grab government land and build residential areas on them. Isn’t there a contradiction in terms? None, he believes, because considering the needs of 40 lakh people staying in 1,600 unauthorised colonies, “there is no other option but to regularise them”.

The Delhi Police are allegedly showing reluctance at rescuing a girl, who had been reported missing from her residence in the first week of last month, even after her father informed the cops of her whereabouts.

The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) vice-chairman, Mr Tarlochan Singh, has written a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Mr R S Gupta, urging him to inquire into an incident involving the Lok Sabha MP, Mr Simranjit Singh Mann, who was prohibited from carrying a kirpan in Tihar Jail.

Three youths belonging to one group were shot dead by members of another group in a clash that took place in the Gokul Nagar area on the Rohtak road here on Sunday evening.

Delhi doctor arrested for daylight murder

The South district police today arrested a medical practitioner from Harkesh Nagar who was allegedly involved in a daylight murder. A country-made pistol, one live cartridge and one fired cartridge were seized from his possession.

The Bahadurgarh police today arrested three persons and seized two pistols, seven cartridges and a stolen Maruti car from them. According to information, Anand of Bupenia village was arrested with a country-made pistol and two cartridges in the Housing Board colony.

Three get life term for double murder
Panipat, September 2
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr R. C. Bansal, today sentenced three persons to life imprisonment for a double murder that took place on March 30, 1996 at Samalkha, about 22 km from here. The convicts — Dharam Singh, Rajinder, both residents of Samalkha, and Ram Niwas, a resident of Jind — had killed Sadhu Ram and his wife on that day.

Indian women annexed two gold and two bronze medals in the fifth International Witch Boxing Cup held at Pecs, Hungary, from August 28 to 31. A six-member Indian senior women’s boxing team participated in the event. M.Merrycom of Manipur lifted a gold in the 45 kg category while Meena Kumari of Haryana fetched the 48 kg gold.
