Gradually, the face of the city beautiful is beginning to get blotted. While the concentration of slum dwellers all over the peripheral areas as also in some of the posh sectors is not hidden, the latest tendency is quite disheartening. Most of the dividers on the roads in the Southern sectors are fast becoming residential areas for these slum people.

Relatives of martyr Subedar Major Sucha Singh

The mortal remains of Subedar Major Sucha Singh of 11 Sikh Light Infantry, who laid down his life in the line of duty in the Machhal sector of Kupwara district on Thursday evening, were consigned to flames with state honours at Behara village, near here, today morning.

Child’s death: police awaits viscera report

The viscera of a two-year-old female child, Garima Mehta, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her home on the Panjab University campus here last evening, was today sent for chemical examination to Patiala.

Cyclist killed in mishap
Chandigarh, August 4
A cyclist, Sargan, was killed after he was hit by a truck near the railway traffic light point. The driver of the truck has been arrested and a case under Sections 229, 324 and 304 A of the IPC has been registered.

Civil suit hearing today

A civil suit was filed against the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr H.S. Hanspal, and Punjab Congress MLAs by propaganda secretary of the SAD of Ropar district, Mr Gurmeet Singh Matharu, in a local court yesterday.

Following two incidents of misfiring during firing practice at the firing range in Sector 25 in the recent past, the Chandigarh Police has decided to allow entry to the firing range strictly on the basis of valid permits.
