DMCH striking employees adamant
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, July 10
In a major decision today, the Management of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital has asked the striking employees to rejoin their duty by July 13 forenoon. The decision of the management was supported by the faculty members also.

According to a press release, those who will join duty, will get concession in implementation of ‘no work no wages’. Their total salary of the absenting period will be deducted in three installments or 60 per cent of the total salary for the above period will be deducted straight away and 40 per cent will be adjusted against the earned leaves.

The Principal, Dr S.C. Ahuja, said that the employees who would not join the duties, would be liable to disciplinary action as per the service regulations. The management also revealed that the workers who remained on duty throughout the period of the strike would not only be recognised but would be suitably rewarded.

Meanwhile, the union leaders continued with their dharna today. The employees resorted to a hunger strike to intensify the agitation.

The leaders said that they were forced to continue with their dharna due to the breakdown of the dialogue between the two parties. ‘‘The management can do whatever it wants but we will not call-off our strike till the demands were not met. They are levelling false allegations against us and we will surely retaliate to it,’’ said one of the striking employees at DMCH.

Get combine harvesters checked: DM
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, July 10
The District Magistrate, Ludhiana, yesterday ordered all the combine harvester operators and owners to get their machines inspected and certified by a district-level committee in lieu of the ensuing kharif season.

The District Magistrate, Mr Anurag Aggarwal, maintained that as the farmers were going to use the combine harvesters for harvesting the paddy extensively they should make sure that there was no technical fault in the machine that could break the grains of rice. Stating that it was a national loss as the poor quality and defective combines caused a lot of damage to the rice while harvesting and the result was an excessively broken rice.

He said that the procurement agencies refrained from procuring such paddy as those did not fall within the specifications. This caused a lot of resentment among the farmers and they resorted to agitations resulting in a law and order problem.

He directed the owners to submit their applications for technical inspection to the office of the District Food and Supplies Controller and get time and place for inspection.
