Haryana to procure only new wheat Chandigarh, April 11 This was revealed at a meeting of DCs and SPs held here today under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, who directed the DCs to personally visit the mandis to supervise the procurement operations. He also directed the officers of the procurement agencies to ensure the auction of wheat thrice a day at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Commissioner and Secretary, Food and Supplies, Mr H.C. Disodia, said 25,415 tonnes of wheat had arrived in the mandis till yesterday. It was decided to launch a special drive to verify driving licences, to regulate private driving schools and introduce a special educational programme on traffic rules. Driving licences for heavy motor vehicles would be verified from April 15 to June 15. The Chief Secretary, Mr L.M. Goyal, said the people should be educated to obey traffic rules. The meeting was informed by the Commissioner and Secretary, Urban Development, Mr Manik Sonewane, that modern slaughterhouses and meat market complexes would be developed within six months in the state. Each slaughterhouse would cost Rs 9.5 lakh. He said 75 per cent of the cost of construction had already been released as grant to 57 towns. The remaining 25 per cent of the cost would be met by the civic bodies. The Haryana Slum Clearance Board had undertaken the modernisation of solid waste management and repair of roads in 16 towns falling under the National Capital Region at a cost of Rs 56.56 crore financed by the NCR Planning Board. The solid waste management scheme for 10 more towns had been sanctioned by the government at a cost of Rs 45.23 crore. The DCs told the meeting that the implementation of the scheme to shift dairies in Rohtak, Panipat, Sonepat, Gurgaon, Bahadurgarh and Rewari was in progress as land had already been identified to shift the dairies. The DGP, Mr M.S. Malik, said 474 persons, including examination supervisors, had been arrested this year for using unfair means in the examinations in the state. The Chairperson, Power Utilities, Mrs Meenaxi Anand Chaudhary, said a new scheme to release power connections on the spot in villages had been launched. So far, 28,068 domestic and non-domestic connections had been released under this scheme. |

Kurukshetra CEET exam on June
1 Kurukshetra, April 11 Stating this to mediapersons here today, Dr S.K. Chakarvarti, co-Chairman, CEET-2002, said the test would be conducted by Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra, on the behalf of the Haryana Government. Dr Chakarvarti said the information brochure for admission to more than 8,000 seats in various disciplines like B.Tech, B.E., B.Arch in engineering, technology and Architecture courses in the state 2002-2003 would be available with effect from April 17 at Kurukshetra, Murthal, Hisar, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Karnal, New Delhi, Ambala city, Sirsa, Jagadhri, Kaithal, Panipat, Jind, Rohtak, Bahadurgarh, Radaur (Yamunanagar) and Rewari. The price of the brochure at the counter would be Rs 600 and by registered post from Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra, by sending a draft worth Rs 650. He also claimed that this time there would be special reduced information brochure price Rs 150 for belonging to the SC, ST, OBCs. The test would be held at Ambala, Bhiwani, Chandigarh, Delhi, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Hisar, Kurukshetra, Panchkula, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa, Sonepat and Yamunanagar, he said. Dr Chakarvarti said the result of the test would be declared hopefully by June 15. The candidates would be eligible for 85 per cent seats (both free and on payment), except for the RECs, while for the remaining 15 per cent seats of Haryana, earmarked for all India candidates including Haryana would be filled by the CBSE through the test — AIEEE-2002, he said. The candidates opting for admission to B.Arch. course would have to qualify an aptitude test which wold be conducted by REC, Kurukshetra, on July 7. ‘No proposal to close down depots’ Chandigarh, April 11 He said as per the government’s policy, privatisation schemes were introduced from time to time with a view to providing adequate, efficient and authorised bus services to people in place of unauthorised and unsafe operations by some private operators. Such schemes were prepared to cater to only the incremental demand in traffic. He said the workers of Haryana Roadways would be duly taken into confidence before finalising any such scheme. Only unauthorised operations would be stopped by such schemes and Haryana Roadways would stand to benefit by the elimination of such operations. The tax evasion being indulged in by some unauthorised operators would also be checked. |

251 panches with
more than two kids lose posts Chandigarh, April 11 He said 235 seats of panch, 25 of sarpanch, seven of member of panchayat samiti and one of member of zila parishad had fallen vacant following the death of the elected persons after the poll held in March, 2000. He said 32 panches, eight sarpanches, one member of a panchayat samiti and one member of a zila parishad had also resigned. Mr Jogpal said the draft list of voters would be published on April 23, 2002, for inviting claims and objections. The last date for the receipt of claims and objections would be April 30. The last date for the disposal of claims and objections would be done May 3 and the final publication of the revised list would be done on May 20, 2002.

Council for fogging against mosquitoes Ambala, April 11 The Chairman of the council, Mr N.C. Jain said that there were a large number of mosquitoes in the Ambala Sadar and Mahesh Nagar areas and mosquitoes were a problem during the day as well as night hours. He said that the reasons for the spread of mosquitoes were the insanitary conditions, chocking of drains, no disposal of stagnant water and lack of cleanliness of the sewerage system. He said that Haryana ministers, Mr Subhash Goyal and Dr M.L. Ranga, must direct the authorities concerned to take immediate steps. Ambala, April 11 Mr Yadav said that the interviews would take place in the office of the SP, Government Railway Police, Ambala Cantonment. The candidates have to bring their original certificates for the interview, a release said.
