No proposal to close down depots’
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 11
The Haryana Transport Department has termed reports appearing in a section of the Press regarding privatisation in five depots as totally incorrect and misleading. A spokesman of the department clarified that there was no proposal to close down any depot or retrench staff.

He said as per the government’s policy, privatisation schemes were introduced from time to time with a view to providing adequate, efficient and authorised bus services to people in place of unauthorised and unsafe operations by some private operators. Such schemes were prepared to cater to only the incremental demand in traffic. He said the workers of Haryana Roadways would be duly taken into confidence before finalising any such scheme. Only unauthorised operations would be stopped by such schemes and Haryana Roadways would stand to benefit by the elimination of such operations. The tax evasion being indulged in by some unauthorised operators would also be checked.Top
