CM promises 2 more sugar mills Hisar, March 22 Speaking at a function held here at Haryana Agricultural University in connection with the annual kisan mela he said the government was competent enough to maintain law and order and ensure communal harmony and there was no cause for concern in this regard. Minor incidents should not be taken seriously. He said communal tensions had become an international phenomenon because certain forces were bent upon disturbing peace and creating tension among different communities. However, stern instructions had been issued to the authorities all over Haryana not to allow these forces to raise their heads. He asked people especially people in the rural areas not to be misled by any propaganda or rumours floated by such forces. The government would take serious note of any mischief and the guilty would be immediately punished. He assured farmers that despite the fact 615 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was rotting in godowns of the Haryana government would lift every grain of wheat grown in the state. No farmer of Haryana should have any worries in this regard he added. The Chief Minister, however, asked farmers to diversify and get out of the wheat-paddy cycle at the earliest as it had become unremunerative. The sooner they accepted this fact, the better of they would be. He said he was in touch with the Centre on the issue of raising the MSP of wheat and an announcement would be made shortly. Referring to livestock development he said an insurance scheme for livestock would be launched shortly. The government would pay half of the premium while the rest would have to be paid by the livestock owners. This, he said, would go a long way in providing a sense of security among dairy farmers. Mr Chautala said two new sugar mills would be set up in Haryana during the next financial year. He claimed Haryana was paying the world’s highest rates for sugarcane to the growers. The chief minister was upset at the poor arrangements at the function and he scolded the organisers for it. Earlier, Mr Chautala inaugurated Sant Ravi Das Hostel here. The Local Government Minister, Mr Subhash Goyal, and the Agriculture Minister, Mr Jaswinder Singh, were also present at these functions. |
