Red alert in Bihar over flood
threat
Patna, August 19
An alert has been sounded in north Bihar by the Water Resources Department today following apprehensions of flash floods triggered by heavy rain in the catchment area of river Gandak in Nepal, an official spokesman said here. Department engineers have been asked to keep a close vigil on the embankments of the river by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Water Resources Mr Radha Singh.

Moopanar stable
Chennai, August 19
The condition of TMC President G.K. Moopanar, undergoing treatment at a hospital here, was stable though he continued to be on ventilator, doctors said today. “There was no cause for any anxiety,” doctors attending on Mr Moopanar at Sri Ramachandra Medical College Hospital at Suburban Porur said.

Bangladesh elections
Dhaka, August 19
Bangladesh will go to the polls on October 1 to elect a new Parliament, Election Commission sources said today. The last date for the submission of nomination would be August 29 while the scrutiny of the papers would take place on August 30 and 31. The last date for withdrawal of candidature would be September 6. The seventh Parliament was dissolved on July 13.
