Bansi Lal warns
officers Haily Mandi (Gurgaon), June 22 Mr Bansi Lal, while addressing a public meeting organised here by the HVP, alleged that the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, was misusing official machinery by employing them for his political campaign in Uttar Pradesh. “The officers who are misusing their official position will be made accountable for their perverted enthusiasm”, he
said. He alleged that Mr Chautala was trying to ‘blackmail’ the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, and the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. He alleged that Mr Chautala was aware of the fact that the people of Haryana would reject his party in the next Assembly elections. This was the reason why he was keeping himself away from the people of Haryana and spending much of his time in another state, he said. He further alleged that rather than pressurising Mr Vajpayee to expedite the completion of the Sutlej Yamuna Link
(SYL) canal project, Mr Chautala was pressurising Mr Vajpayee not to induct Mr Ajit Singh, former Union Minister and son of former Prime Minister, late Charan Singh, in the Council of Ministers. Earlier addressing newspersons, Mr Bansi Lal said there was no comparison between Charan Singh and former Deputy Prime Minister, late Devi Lal. Charan Singh was far superior in stature and guided by secular and noble ideals, he said. Mr Bansi Lal alleged that the law and order situation had collapsed in Haryana. Taking exceptions to the INLD government’s decision to do away with the reservation provision regarding admission to medical and engineering colleges and the employment for the Scheduled Castes and OBCs, he said that he would do away with all policies of the present state government. He also referred to the imposition of the new taxes levied by the INLD government and said once in power, his party would annul them. He also charged the present government with indulging in and fostering land scandals, especially in Gurgaon. He further said the BJP was equally responsible for the misdeeds of the INLD government as it had helped in installing Mr Chautala as Chief Minister. |

Local mobile service in
Hisar Hisar, June 22 Addressing a meeting of the Telecom Advisory Committee here yesterday, Mr Ramesh Arya, General Manager, Hisar Telecom, said the BSNL had sanctioned 9,500 lines for the service. Due to some technical reasons, the necessary equipment for establishing the system could not be received so far. As soon as the machinery was received, the service would be started. He said the department had decided to take strict action against those PCOs involved in overcharging. If any person approached the department with a written complaint and sufficient evidence against PCO owners, the department would disconnect the connection immediately. Mr Arya informed the members that the department would install 20 new exchanges in different villages of the district during the current year. He said the department was unable to provide fast dialing facilities at PCOs as it was not feasible because of technical reasons. He said it would put extra burden on exchanges. He said the district had earned Rs 60 crore during the year 2000-2001 and it was 3 per cent more than the last corresponding year. He said the number of consumers had increased by 25 per cent than the last year. He said about 22,000 consumers were on the waiting list and the department would clear it by releasing 40,000 new connections by the end of the current year. Meanwhile, consumers of the nearby Gorkhpur village have warned that if the telephone services in the village do not improve soon they will be forced to get their connections disconnected. A delegation of consumers met Mr Arya during the TAC meeting and complained that all telephone connections were out of order for the past many days. |

NCR Sonepat, June 22 Giving this information, Mr S.N. Roy, Deputy Commissioner, said here today that the work on the construction of roads and setting up of the markets would be taken up on a priority basis. He disclosed that the state government had framed stringent laws to check the haphazard growth of unauthorised colonies in the city and its surrounding areas. According to the new rules, all new constructions and residential colonies, besides the sale of residential and industrial plots within 5 km of the city, were now required to get prior permission from the Country and Town Planning Department. The Deputy Commissioner further disclosed that the state government had also banned the construction of residential and commercial buildings upto 30 metres on either side of the roads leading to this city. It had also promulgated a notification prescribing fine and imprisonment up to three years for illegal constructions. Mr Roy cautioned people not to be misled by colonisers and that should get relevant information about the use of land from the District Town Planner before starting any construction on the land which had come under the controlled area. He said at least 20 unauthorised colonies in the city had already been demolished and added that 1,640 persons had been served notices to remove unauthorised constructions in the notified areas. The Deputy Commissioner disclosed that 679 FIRs had been lodged with the police against colonisers who had violated the rules. |
Cow welfare panel
sought Faridabad, June 22 Although several social organisations have been actively involved in the campaign against cow campaign against cow slaughter in the region where it has already become a menace. Several villages, including those in the Mewat area and others in the border districts of UP and Rajasthan, have become centres of cow smuggling or slaughter. Beef is transported to several towns in UP from where it is learnt that this beef is even exported to some Gulf countries. It is perhaps for the first time that politicians and representatives of various khaps were invited at the mahapanchayat called to “save the cow” from butchers. This unusual meeting, known as goraksha mahapanchayat, adopted several resolutions to put a firm check on the problem. Demanding setting up of a go sewa ayog (cow welfare commission), it sought strict laws and police action against cow slaughter and beef smuggling. The mahapanchayat raised the demand of declaring the cow a national animal and putting a ban on the export of beef. Various speakers asked the government to set up a special task force to check the menace. They also suggested deputing CRPF companies in the affected region. Mr Ram Chander Bainda, BJP MP from Faridabad, Mr Tejvir Singh, MP from Mathura, Mr Gopi Chand Gurjar, MLA from Rajasthan, Mr Subhash Katyal, a former minister, and some former MLAs took part in the panchayat. Some political observers feel that participation of politicians at such a panchayat was an indication of their motives keeping in mind the impending assembly elections in UP. However, organisers claimed the panchayat was a totally non-political one and the only aim was to garner support to check cow slaughter in the region. |
MC men seal 3 shops Panipat, June 22 The number of such tenants is at least 24 in Panipat town. Every tenant owes rent arrears between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 each. However, astonished by the sudden action of the council, the shopkeepers termed the action of the council as high-handedness and claimed that cases pertaining to increase in rents is pending in the courts. The Executive Officer of the council, Mr Shiv Kumar Vats, said the action had been taken under the court orders and added that the tenants of these three shops were given two months’ time to pay the arrears. But they did not pay the arrears and hence it had been decided to put up shops for auction again. Justifying the council’s action, Mr Vats said as per the agreement the council was authorised to increase annual rent by 25 per cent after every five years and the tenants were bound to pay the increased rents. He claimed this practice was going on smoothly in other towns of the state. |
