9 Assam Rifles jawans killed
Guwahati, June 13
Nine Assam Rifles jawans were killed in an ambush by suspected militants in Assam’s Tinsukia district bordering Arunachal Pradesh today, official sources said. Another jawan was injured and admitted to hospital. PTI

Scribe Shrikant Nyahalkar dead
Nagpur, June 13
City journalist Shrikant Nyahalkar passed away on Tuesday night following a prolonged illness at a private nursing home, according to family sources. He was 46. A Chief Sub-Editor with Marathi daily Lokmat in Nagpur, Nyahalkar was Resident Editor of its Solapur edition for some time.  PTI

US college honours 'Umrao Jaan' Director
New Delhi, June 13
Eminent film maker and poet Muzaffar Ali, known for his feature film ‘Umrao Jaan’ and several short films has received the Withrow Chair Award of the Deep Springs College in Salt Lake area of California. The poet was selected for the award on the basis of information available about him on his website and his study of Sufi music. After taking a preliminary decision, a representative of the college had come to Kotwara in Uttar Pradesh to meet Ali before taking a final decision. Ali, who recently went to the United States of America to receive the award, had delivered two lectures in the college: one on Sufi Art — journey through life and Voice of the desert — Journey to Deep Springs.
