Nayagaon ASI suspended for beating up father, son
Nayagaon (Kharar), June 6
A Punjab Police ASI, Nirmal Singh, posted at Nayagaon, was today suspended for allegedly beating up a youth and his father in the Nayagaon police station. The ASI had picked up Mr Avtar Singh and his father without any formal complaint yesterday.

Security tents pitched outside the homes of protected persons are to be removed. The Chandigarh Administration, at a recent high-level meeting, asked the Punjab and Haryana Governments to get tents put up outside the homes of their officials or politicians, shifted inside the homes.

Challaned ‘without violation’

Chaos prevailed in the booth market of Sector 18 this evening when the traffic police posted in the area went on a challaning spree. The police was challaning vehicles for wrong parking. The cause of this confusion which lasted for well over an hour beginning at 7 pm today was that the police allegedly challaned two vehicles for wrong parking despite the fact that the drivers in their seats and the ignition was also on.

Poorly laid tarmac surface dotted with potholes and depressions are found on the road dividing Sectors 42 and 43, particularly near the crossing dividing the two sectors. Driving in this area has become a nightmare, especially during night, when drivers fail to notice these depressions, resulting in various accidents.

Twelve jhuggis near the furniture market on the SAS Nagar road were demolished by the enforcement staff of the UT Estate Office. While 19 rickshaws were impounded for plying without licences, 19 banners and nine advertisements were removed from different parts of the city.

Two persons were killed and another was injured in an accident between a Gypsy and a truck near Santo Majra village on the Kharar-Landran road this morning.

A two-week long summer camp for children concluded at the local branch of Ajit Karam Singh International Public School today. Today the children came dressed in colourful outfits with shining paper caps and masks. They danced to music and had henna and tatoo designs on their hands, arms and cheeks.

Issuing notice on an application filed by Mr A.R. Dahiya — Chairman of Polo Hotels Limited, having its registered office at North Park in Chowki village in Panchkula district, Mr Justice Jawahar Lal Gupta and Mr Justice J.S. Narang of the Punjab and Haryana High Court have stayed the recovery proceedings against the petitioner.

Abhinav ranked 15th in world

The ISSF has introduced a world ranking system from last month, according to information available here. The ranking has been published for the first time on the ISSF website (www.issf.shooting.org). The world ranking will be updated on the first day of each month. Indian Olympian and world-record holder Abhinav Bindra has been placed at the 15th position in the world. Abhinav is currently the youngest shooter registered in the world today in his event.

‘Drainage Dept lagging on flood protection works’
SAS Nagar, June 6
The Punjab Services Anti-Corruption Council today claimed that the state drainage department was yet to complete the process of inviting tenders for execution of flood protection works in the state. The work of repair and clearance of silt from drains had to be done by June 30 at a cost of around Rs 75 crore.
