Melbourne, June 1
A woman who killed her baby son by leaving him in an overheated car while she played slot machines was jailed for four years today. But under the terms of the sentence. 41 year-old Jie Hua Yu was likely to be freed later today. The boy died in hospital after enduring temperatures approaching 60°C. AFP

Quake jolts Afghanistan
Kabul, June 1
A 4.9 magnitude earthquake hit northern Afghanistan today evening, reducing houses to rubble and killing at least two persons, officials said. The quake’s epicenter was in the Hindu Kush mountain range, about 250 km north of the northern Pakistani city of Peshawar, where the quake was also felt. AP
