CHB defers decision on allotment to Puri
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, June 1
The Board of Directors of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has deferred the decision on the allotment of a dwelling unit in Modern Housing Complex, Mani Majra, to the former Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof M.M. Puri, yet again.

According to sources, the decision was taken as Professor Puri has written to the CHB that he won’t be able to make it to the meeting.

Now the matter is likely to come up for discussion at a meeting to be held in July.

It may be recalled that Professor Puri was issued a show-cause notice late in 1999 asking him why his allotment in Mani Majra should not be cancelled for giving a false affidavit.

He was earlier reportedly allotted a flat in Panjab University Staff Home Provision Associates Cooperative House Building Society Limited (PUSHPAC) in Sector 49 here.

Later, Professor Puri was informed by the CHB in April, 2000, that the allotment of the dwelling unit had been cancelled and the amount deposited by him had been forfeited. Subsequently, he went to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The court had later advised him to go in for statutory appeal to the Chairperson of the CHB.

The then Chairperson, Ms Neeru Nanda, had ruled in August 2000 that there could not be stay on the cancellation orders, the sources added.
