About six armed robbers struck at a house in Bharti Colony just on the outskirts of the city late last night and seriously injured three persons, including a woman, besides allegedly decamping with cash and jewellery.

DNA report goes in favour of DSP

The much-talked about Jagraon murder case in which DSP Ashok Puri is the main accused seems to have taken a curious turn with the DNA report stating that the five-month-old child of Gurjit Kaur was not fathered by the accused. 

Harassment by the DMC security staff
Ludhiana, May 30
Complaints of rude behaviour by the security staff of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital seems to have become a routine. While the Ludhiana Tribune has, in the past, received several complaints by the relatives of the patients of having suffered harassment at the hands of security guards, a Tribune team had today had a first hand experience of the way they treat visitors.

PAU to get Rs 15-cr corpus fund for research

In order to overcome the shortcomings of the present inflexible system of distribution of funds earmarked for various research projects, the Punjab Agricultural University has mooted a proposal to the state government for a granting a fund of Rs 15 crore to pay special attention to the research related to diversification of agriculture.

Lok Morcha plans mass movement

The Sanja Lok Morcha will launch a mass movement to highlight failures of the Akali-BJP government in Punjab. In the first phase dharnas will be held at all the district headquarters starting from Jalandhar on June 14.

Woman foils bid to kidnap son

Four persons reportedly tried to kidnap a 12-year-old boy of an industrialist family from his house on Mall Road here yesterday. The boy’s mother foiled the attempt. The police has received the complaint, but a case is yet to be registered.

Session on rice-wheat cropping pattern

‘‘To solve the problems created by the rice-wheat cropping pattern in the North-Western region of the country, an activity oriented programme is the need of the hour,’’ opined Dr C.R. Hazara, Agricultural Production Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture, while inaugurating a session on “rice-wheat cropping system and its management,” held at Punjab Agricultural University, here yesterday.

Forum directs finance company to pay Rs 3,00,000
Ludhiana, May 30
The District Consumer Forum has directed M/s Hoffland Finance Limited, a Delhi-based company, to pay Rs 3,00,000 to the heirs of late Surjit Singh, a resident of Model Town. The forum further directed the company to pay interest at the rate of 18 per cent from the date of deposit till actual payment along with Rs 500 as cost of litigation. 

Bar flays police action

The District Bar Association has condemned the high-handedness of the Jalandhar police and opposed the registration of a criminal case against two senior advocates, Mr Dalip Garg and Mr Krishan Lal Kochar of Ludhiana, at Division No 4 police station, Jalandhar.

Brick-kiln owners told to follow rules

The district administration has told all brick-kiln owners of the district to follow the rules on the storage and sale of bricks rigidly. At a meeting of the brick-kiln owners here yesterday, the District Food and Supplies Controller, Mr Parveen Vij, told them not to store and sell bricks outside the kilns in the city.Top
