Brick-kiln owners told to follow rules
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, May 30
The district administration has told all brick-kiln owners of the district to follow the rules on the storage and sale of bricks rigidly. At a meeting of the brick-kiln owners here yesterday, the District Food and Supplies Controller, Mr Parveen Vij, told them not to store and sell bricks outside the kilns in the city.

Mr Vij said the sale of bricks at any unauthorised place would attract penalty under the East Punjab Control of Bricks Supplies Act of 1949. The kiln owners were also told not to operate kilns without obtaining clearance from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB). “Licenses of those who fail to obtain the NOCs from the PPCB will be cancelled and the defaulters will be punished,” said Mr Vij.

He told the brick-kiln owners that the department had introduced measures to detect and close down ‘benami’ kilns in the district. He said all kiln owners should affix their photographs on their licenses and those who were opertating benami kilns would be prosecuted. Mr Vij told kiln owners to adopt quality control and follow the specifications prescribed in the Bricks Control Order of 1998.

Those who attended the meeting included Mr Akhtiar Singh, President of the Brick-Kiln Owners Association; Mr Ashwani Sharma, General Secretary of the body; and Mr Ashwani Sood, its Joint Secretary.Back
