One more CRPF battalion for Chamba

CHAMBA, Jan 2 — The Centre has sanctioned one more battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for deployment in Chamba district of Himachal adjoining Jammu and Kashmir to check terrorism.

An official spokesman said here today that to curb militancy and to check infiltration and also to strengthen intelligence, 70 special police officers (SPOs) had been appointed from among local youths. They had been fully trained in arms to combat militants.

As many as 170 village defence committees (VDCs) had been constituted in the 216 km border area from Pangi to Khairi, the spokesman said.top


 

Fined for carrying banned bags

SHIMLA, Jan 2 — Twentyeight persons were fined here today for carrying recycled polythene bags. The recycled coloured polythene bags have been banned in Himachal Pradesh since yesterday.

The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ram Subhag Singh, said the ban would be strictly enforced to maintain ecology.top

SHIMLA, Jan 2 — Mr Ram Kumar has been appointed president of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Himachal Pradesh. Mr Kamal Nayan has been appointed state secretary.

Mr Ram Kumar is a lecturer in a college at Una. Other office-bearers are: Dr Inder Dev, Mr Himanshu Mishra and Mr Lalit (all vice-presidents), Mr Shailendra, Mr Vinay Negi, Mr Ravinder, Ms S. Bhardwaj and Mr Umesh Kumar (all joint secretaries), Mr Lokesh Sood (treasurer) and Mr Sanjeev Kalia (office secretary).

The district heads of the parishad have also been named. They are Mr Dinesh (Shimla), Mr Narinder Kumar (Solan), Mr Subhash Kumar (Bilaspur), Mr Rajendra Kumar (Mandi), Mr Arvind Chandel (Kulu), Mr Sanjeev Kumar (Hamirpur), Mr Ajay Kumar (Una), Mr Vijay Kumar (Kangra), Mr Narendra Kumar (Chamba) and Mr Yashpal Negi (Kinnaur).top
