One dead, 11 injured in bomb explosion in train
CHENNAI: A woman passenger was killed and 11 others were injured, two of them grievously, when two bombs went off today in quick succession in two coaches of the Guwahati-Bangalore Express at the Chennai Central railway station, the main railway hub here.

Security scaled up for vital 
installations in TN

CHENNAI: Security has been stepped up at airports, railway stations, bus-terminals and key installations in the state, including the Kalapakkam Atomic Power Plant here, in the wake of the bomb blasts on the Bangalore-Guwahati Express.

Train blasts could've been prevented: Karunanidhi
CHENNAI: DMK president M. Karunanidhi Thursday condemned the twin bomb blasts on a train here and said the incident could have been prevented had only the state government taken proper action after the arrest of a Sri Lankan with links to Pakistan's ISI.

Chandigarh, April 30
Punjab recorded 70.39% polling as the state went to the polls for the 13 Lok Sabha constituencies amidst sporadic incidents of violence. The state had recorded 70% polling in the 2009 Lok Sabha election. Sangrur witnessed the highest poll percentage at 74.04%, followed by Bathinda (72%).

SAD councillor leads attack on AAP Patiala candidate

Dr Dharamvir Gandhi AAP Patiala candidate Dr Dharamvir Gandhi was allegedly punched in the face, slapped repeatedly and abused by a group of men led by local SAD councillor Rajinder Virk an hour before the end of polling at Rasoolpur Saidan village in the Patiala (rural) Assembly segment in one of the many incidents of Akali workers allegedly thrashing workers of the fledgling party.

New Delhi, April 30
Moderate to high turnout marked polling in the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday. Braving the scorching summer, nearly 60 per cent of the 13.83 crore electorate trooped to over 1.5 lakh polling stations in seven states and two union territories to pick 89 MPs from among 1,200 candidates, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi (Rae Bareli), BJP president Rajnath Singh (Lucknow) and BJP patriarch LK Advani (Gandhinagar).

Srinagar sees 26% polling amid boycott, boy’s death

A little over quarter electors today turned out to vote in the Srinagar constituency, the region's urban heartland spread over three central Kashmir districts, where the day was shadowed by a shutdown, poll boycott and ended with the death of a teenage boy.
