Apex court rejects Centre’s review plea on mercy petitions
New Delhi, March 12
The Supreme Court on Wednesday re-affirmed its January 21 verdict, granting life to 15 death-row convicts on account of their mental illness or the undue and unexplained delay in rejection of their mercy petitions.

After marathon meetings through the day to choose the best candidates for upcoming elections, the Congress' Central Election Committee (CEC) was unable to arrive at a final list till late tonight.
Sources in the party told The Tribune that the CEC had asked for the list of the so-called tainted candidates in the fray separately to take a call on their future.

INLD decides to go it alone in Haryana
Sirsa, March 12

Following negotiations for an alliance with the BJP drawing a blank, the Indian National Lok Dal has decided to go it alone in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The party has decided to formally launch its campaign in Haryana from March 14.
Sources said the INLD’s top leadership had finalised the names of candidates for all the 10 constituencies of the state. The party is likely to announce its candidates tomorrow.

India joins hunt for missing Malaysian jet

The Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force have been asked to be in state of readiness after Malaysia requested for help to locate it missing commercial jet-liner.
Coastguards from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands joined the airborne search on Wednesday for the missing Malaysian airliner, a senior official said.

Two soldiers among 11 dead in Kashmir snow fury, avalanches
Srinagar, March 12
At least 11 persons, including two soldiers and two children, were killed while over 80 others were evacuated as unprecedented snowfall in March triggered avalanches and damaged houses in several parts of the Kashmir region.
