 Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today said the BJP was a party centred around an individual whereas the Congress believed in decentralising power. He said the BJP was taking credit for achievements made by Congress over the years.

Implement one rank-one pension before poll code: Ex-servicemen
 Chandigarh, February 24
 Ex-servicemen today demanded that the notification for the implementation of one rank-one pension (OROP) formula for defence personnel be issued by the government as soon as possible. They said there were still some apprehensions and lack of clarity on the announcement.

Jolt to Lalu as 13 RJD MLAs join Nitish camp, 6 return later
 Patna, February 24
 In a jolt to Lalu Prasad ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the RJD split today as 13 of the 22 RJD MLAs in Bihar announced they have quit the party but six of them later claimed they are not part of the breakaway faction. The MLAs, who quit in a dramatic development, pledged support to the Nitish Kumar government.

Can’t terminate RIL contract: Moily to PM
 New Delhi, February 24
 Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily has told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that Reliance Industries' contract for KG-D6 gas fields cannot be terminated pending arbitration on issue of output lagging targets. Moily, in a 13-page letter to the Prime Minister, explained the process, the contractual requirement and the steps followed for raising natural gas prices from April 1, without which several gas fields of both private sector firm RIL and state-owned ONGC would find production economically non-viable.

No death penalty for marines, Centre tells SC

 The Centre today informed the Supreme Court that the two Italian marines, accused of shooting down two Indian fishermen off Kerala coast on February 15, 2012, would not be slapped with any charge that would entail awarding them death penalty.

India and China today decided to expand their military ties during the sixth Annual Defence and Security Dialogue here today. Maintaining peace on the border areas, addition of new levels of interaction, series of hotlines, code of conduct for their navies and meeting between respective Director General of Military Operations (DGMOs) were agreed upon in the meeting.

Cheaper liquor in new Punjab excise policy
Chandigarh, February 24
The new excise policy for 2014-15, approved by the state Cabinet today, will lead to a fall in the retail prices of liquor. To increase revenue collections from excise by Rs 724 crore, the Cabinet has approved doubling the number of licencing units so as to increase competition, thus bringing down the liquor retail prices.
