RJD break
Lalu accuses Nitish
of conspiracy

Patna: With a faction of his MLAs parting ways with the RJD, Lalu Prasad today rushed here to bring his house in order and blamed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for hatching a "conspiracy" to break his party.

"Nitish hatched a conspiracy with the Speaker to break my party. But it went wrong and the whole country has seen the conspiracy," Prasad told reporters at Patna airport.

RJD had seen a major upheaval yesterday with 13 out of its 22 MLAs quitting the party. But six of them had later returned and denied walking away from the party.

A meeting of RJD legislature party was called at the residence of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi here, in which Prasad would be present along with other top leaders.

There are reports of three more rebel RJD leaders, whose names figured in the list of 13, visiting Rabri Devi's house last night and denying they had parted ways.

While Prasad flew to Patna, Kumar left for Delhi just a few minutes after the arrival of the RJD leader, but they did not see each other at the airport.

The MLAs, who split away from the RJD, had pledged support to the JD(U) government.

In a letter to Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary bearing their signatures, the 13 RJD MLAs had informed him they had been quitting the party.

Nitish trashes Lalu's charge
Says RJD MLAs welcome to join JDU

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said the JD(U) would welcome rebel RJD MLAs into its fold and rejected allegations that the Assembly Speaker had worked at his behest by hurriedly giving recognition to the breakaway faction.

Here to attend a meeting of non-Congress and non-BJP front, Kumar told reporters there were differences within Lalu Prasad-led RJD and the party was "on the verge of a split".

"As far as JD(U) stand is concerned, if the people come to us, we will welcome them," he said.

Dismissing the allegations that the Speaker worked to benefit JD(U), he said, "This is not possible. The Speaker has been given certain powers by the Constitution and he alone can take decisions in certain matters. This is what happened in this issue as well. Nobody can pressurise him," he said.

RJD had seen a major upheaval yesterday with 13 out of its 22 MLAs quitting the party. But six of them had later returned and denied walking away from the party. Earlier in the day, RJD chief Lalu Prasad had accused Kumar of hatching a conspiracy to break his party.

Kumar, who broke away from NDA over the elevation of Narendra Modi, also said he could not see the so-called wave in favour of the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

Shinde’s U-turn: Says he meant social media

Sholapur (Maharashtra): After threatening to "crush" the electronic media, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde did a U-turn, claiming he was referring to the social media, not journalists.

"I have recording of my speech. I was referring to social media and the violence incited against students from the North-East in Hyderabad and Karnataka. My comments were not about journalism", he said here last night.

Shinde had stoked a controversy on Sunday evening by threatening to "crush" the electronic media, alleging a section of it was unnecessarily provoking the Congress by indulging in "false propaganda" against it.

SDJM suspended for seeking sexual favour

Patna: Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) of Sherghati in Gaya district has been put under suspension by the Patna High Court for allegedly seeking sexual favours from a senior medical officer.

The HC adminstration deliberated on the report of Gaya district judge and put Sherghati SDJM Ram Sajan under suspension on Saturday, HC sources said today.

A job-aspirant had filed a case against deputy superintendent, Sherghati sub-divisional hospital, Rajendra Prasad Singh and the case had reached the court of the SDJM.

Pak air strikes target militant hideouts in Waziristan

Peshawar: The Pakistan military today carried out air strikes targeting militant hideouts in tribal region of North and South Waziristan.

Security sources said a number of terrorists hideouts had been completely destroyed in Shawal valley of the region.

The air strikes were a part of military's new strategy to launch intelligence-based limited operations. The continuous strikes in various parts of the tribal region since last week led to the feeling that a full-fledged military operation against the militants might begin soon.

Thousands of people have started fleeing the area.

The Pakistan government was forced to suspend peace dialogue with the Taliban and go in for air strikes following the beheading of 23 Frontier Corps personnel.

The government has maintained that it is still hopeful of solution through talks and has asked the Taliban for a ceasefire. — PTI
