Crew members of TV channel assaulted
: Few persons have been arrested with one of their accomplices absconding in an incident of a clash with a TV crew. The Civil Lines police on Tuesday registered a case against them for assaulting the newsmen. Deepak Sharma, in-charge of the TV crew, said the accused used abusive language without provocation. "I along with my camera men Parshotam Chand, Rishi Kumar and driver Satpal Singh were passing through the Bhandari bridge. The accused refused to move their car aside. They were in an inebriated state and started beating us up without any provocation".

Cong protests against property tax
: Congress workers led by district vice-president Vimal Thatai organised a protest outside the Town Hall. Former councillors who joined the protest said since the MC had failed to provide basic amenities to 1.75 lakh residents, it had no right to recover property tax from them.

5 youths booked for firing in air: The police have booked five youths for allegedly firing in the air at Dutaranwali village near here. The accused have been identified as Goldy, son of an ASI, Lawrence Bishnoi, Javed, Modi Shah and Navy Vohra.

40 hutments gutted in fire at Rampura
: At least 40 hutments were gutted on Tuesday after fire broke out in the tenements situated along the railway crossing on the Bathinda-Barnala road in Rampura. No injuries were reported as most families were out. The exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained. Initial reports suggest that the fire erupted from a kitchen stove. "People living in these hutments are labourers. It is unfortunate that these people lost their household goods in the fire," said Rampura city SHO.

Man gets life term for murdering woman
: The District and Sessions Judge on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to Satwinder Singh (44) of Dadheri village near Mandi Gobindgarh. Satvinder had allegedly killed his neighbour Karamjit Kaur in November last year after she refused to give him money for drugs

Polluting industrial units to face music
: With many industrial units in the district indulging in violation of pollution control norms, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) is gearing up for a massive crackdown on these. The PPCB authorities have been instructed to adopt a zero tolerance approach towards such units. A senior PPCB official said: "Though we keep conducting surprise checks on a regular basis, there are reports that some of the industrial units are discharging their untreated waste in the Kala Sanghian drain during the night."

3 bankers among eight booked for loan fraud
: The city police has booked eight persons, including a woman and three bank officials, for conniving with property dealers and taking a loan of Rs 60 lakh on the basis of fake land documents. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh Goggi, Navneet Singh Lucky, both property dealers, Gurpeet Singh and Ankur Gupta, relationship and credit managers, respectively, of Standard Chartered Bank.

Cong leader Dhanaula  joins Akali Dal
: Tek Singh Dhanaula, former executive committee member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) who joined the Congress in 2012, switched over to the SAD on Tuesday. SAD secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa welcomed Dhanaula to the party fold by presenting him a 'siropa'.

One killed, 4 hurt in  road mishap: One person was killed while four others sustained injuries in an accident at Mehlan Chowk, 10 km from here, on Tuesday. The deceased, Pappu Ram (40), was traveling in a canter that collided with a truck.

Cycles distributed @@Ludhiana: Cycles were distributed among students of Shaheed-e-Azam Thapar Government Senior Secondary School on Tuesday. As many as 1,237 girls studying in classes XI and XII got the bicycles. — TNS

Proportionate pension
: The government has decided that proportionate pension subjected to the minimum pension will be allowed in cases of invalid pension, wherein employees have retired on medical grounds before completing 10 years of qualifying service. A spokesman of the Finance Department said various departments were seeking a clarification on this issue.

Quami Ekta Week: The Haryana Government has decided to observe the Quami Ekta Week from November 19 to 25 to foster the spirit of patriotism and national integration among people. 

Appellate authority: The Haryana Urban Local Bodies Department has designated Special Secretary PK Sharma as the first appellate authority in the administrative wing of the Urban Local Bodies Department in pursuance of the provision of the Right to Information Act, 2005.

807 units of blood donated
: The 17th annual blood donation camp was organised on the premises of the Seth Jai Parkash Mukand Lal Institute of Engineering and Technology (JMIT), Radaur, in collaboration with the PGI, Chandigarh and the district Red Cross along with district blood bank, Yamunanagar. Teams from the PGI Blood Transfusion Department, Chandigarh, and Red Cross, District Blood Bank, Yamunna Nagar, supervised the camp during which 807 students and staff members donated blood.

5-year jail for raping minor:
A local court on Tuesday sentenced a man to five-year rigorous imprisonment by for raping a minor girl.The convict, Mohd Yasin Bhat, hails from the Batamaloo locality of Srinagar. As per the court records, the victim was 15 years old when she was raped by Bhat in 1997. 

Aadhaar phase-II launched: Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Tuesday launched the National Population Register phase II-Aadhaar in South Kashmir’s Dooru Tehsil. The minister said 1.25 lakh Aadhaar cards would be prepared and issued to the people of Dooru within the next four months. 

Indira Gandhi remembered: Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was remembered on her 96th birth anniversary here on Tuesday with Congress leaders paying tributes to her. During a meeting presided by MLC Mohammad Muzaffar Parray held at the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, leaders highlighted her contributions.
