Hindu activists protest against film
Jalandhar, November 15 Even as security arrangements had been made outside all theatres in anticipation of the protests, the first show of the movie at PVR in MBD Mall got disrupted as the activists managed to barge in raising slogans against the movie makers. The protesters forced nearly 200 viewers, mostly students, who had come to see the first show at 9.40 am, to leave the theatre mid-way. Activists of various Hindu organisations, including the Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena and Hindu Jagriti Manch, then later assembled outside the office of the Commissioner of Police where they submitted a memorandum and held discussions regarding their demand with ADCP-I Naresh Dogra. On the demand of the protesters, Dogra had asked the managements of all theatres to use stickers to conceal the word Ram Leela, which they found offending. He also directed them to mute a small part of clipping of a song to which the protesters had been objecting. Later, however, there was no interruption at any of the multiplexes and the shows went on as per normal schedule. The police officials, including DSPs and SHOs, tried to dissuade the protesters, but they failed to budge. They got together again and lodged a protest at PAP Chowk this afternoon inconveniencing the commuters for a long time. The buses remained halted for a long time after which the pace of movement of vehicles remained affected for two hours. Dogra said six protesters were detained and later released. A representative of PVR said there of course was a little problem in the last half an hour of the first show, but subsequent shows went smoothly. He added that the amount of the tickets had been refunded to all those who could not view the complete movie. The management of Sarb Multiplex said they did not face any problem. “We just assured proper private and police security for all shows. The distributors of the movie had already changed the title. Even the clipping to which the protesters had been objecting were muted. So, there was full compliance from our side,” a manager said. |
After Tinu’s complaint, proper arrangements made for players
Jalandhar, November 15 Deputy Commissioner Varun Roojam, who was away to Chandigarh yesterday, reportedly told ADC (G) Pritam Singh to personally make rounds to the event venue at Burlton Park and check arrangements for the stay of the players at four government schools here. He also sought an explanation from District Transport Officer (DTO) Kehar Singh on why there was a delay on the part of the transporters in picking the players from the venue and taking them to their lodging places last afternoon. Several adjustments were made today by the officials to ensure the comfort of the players. Some players from all those schools where more players had been accommodated till yesterday were shifted to other schools to draw rationality. Some 60 players from the Ladowali Road school were shifted to the Mandi Fantom Ganj campus and another 100 to Nehru Garden school. Also mobile MC toilets were provided in these schools so that the girls did not have to wait for long to get ready in the morning. The DC said he had asked the ADC (G) as well as SDM-I Iqbal Singh Sandhu to check the quality of food before it was served to the players. “We have arranged cooks on all campuses for breakfast and dinner and for lunch at Burlton Park. The officials have been instructed to first taste the food and then serve the meals to the players. We have also added chicken to the diet for the players since they need high-protein food,” he added. The DC said he had checked and found that medical teams were there at the spot. Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Sports) Pawan Tinu said he was satisfied with the improvements made in arrangements by the administration. “Had they done it all on their own yesterday, I would not have had to lodge any complaints,” he said, adding that he would personally visit all venues again tomorrow to check arrangements. |
Tussle between teachers hots up
Jalandhar, November 15 They said the SSA project started in 2001-02 and all district Management Informatics System (MIS) coordinators work under the MIS deputy manager who is also a contractual employee and is working since 2009. They demanded that the government should implement the “equal work equal pay” rule to all the employees of under the SSA. Recently, the Education Department, Punjab, had deputed regular teachers as district MIS coordinators in 22 districts under SSA. A major duty assigned to these teachers ondeputation is preparing the annual SSA budget, maintaining web portals of the state government and responsibility of U-Dise Survey (National-level survey for the annual budget plan of SSA conducted by Punjab). The U-Dise survey includes data entry and report generation on sophisticated computer software. Some say that these duties should be performed by highly skilled computer professionals because the job needs in-depth knowledge of computer and knowing mere basics of computer are not enough. But the Education Department has deputed agriculture (1), primary JBT teachers (9), math, science and Punjabi teacher (one each) for the computer-oriented technical post, they said. The department did not bother to look at their eligibility and qualification for these posts and rather favoured teachers with political approach, they alleged. They further said these deputed teachers had not been taught computer at their schools even for a single day but were made component in-charge at the district level for the post of MIS district coordinator. Interestingly, 142 block MIS have been recruited under the SSA. The minimum eligibility for the recruitment of these block MIS coordinators is three year degree in computer. “It is ridiculous that the department has deputed JBT and agriculture teachers who do not have certified computer qualification. They are directing graduate and postgraduate computer professionals,” a teacher said. Moreover, in spite of the RTE Act, these teachers are given non-teaching assignments in district offices and do not meet even the minimum requirement for this technical post, he claimed. |

Two days later, we went to the office of Vodafone to check the call details of his number and we were told that the call had been made from Jalandhar. We even got his Nokia set EMI number traced through police. The phone is in use in Punjab with the locations pointing to Ludhiana, Zira and Jalandhar." Murali, who is staying at the Devi Talab Mandir, showed a copy of DDR they got registered at the Rama Mandi police station.
