Traffic jam a routine affair between Kishanpura Chowk, Domoria RUB

Jalandhar, November 12
Traffic jams have become a routine affair between Kishanpura Chowk and the Domoria railway under-bridge (RUB). The problem aggravates during the peak hours. Thanks to the temporary encroachments, faulty parking and no restriction on heavy traffic during peak hours.

This half-km stretch witnessed traffic jam between 3 pm and 4.15 pm even today. Long queues of vehicles were seen on all sides of Kishanpura Chowk, especially towards Domoria bridge.

A resident of Baldev Nagar, Ranjit Singh, said it took half an hour to reach Domoria RUB from Kishanpura Chowk as his car was stuck in the jam. “This is the only road without any rail track, to go towards Devi Talab Mandir side from the Hoshiarpur Adda side or vice versa, otherwise there is every possibility of getting stuck at any of the Kishanpura, Devi Talab Mandir, Sodal or Ram Nangar railway crossings. So, the administration should make this road free of encroachments.”

Negligent attitude of the Municipal Corporation (MC) in removing temporary encroachments and that of traffic police in ensuring smooth flow of traffic are the main reasons for the problem. As a result, the half-km stretch of the road usually witnesses several hours of traffic jam a number of times in a day.

Talking to The Tribune, the area councillor, Bal Kishan Bali, said, “About 70 feet road between Kishanpura Chowk and the Domoria bridge has been reduced to just 30 feet due to temporary encroachments by shopkeepers and wrong parking on the road. A yellow line should be drawn on this road and any vehicle parked outside that line should be challaned. Secondly, heavy traffic, especially trucks and vehicles carrying goods, should be banned during peak hours from 8 am to 10 am and from 4 pm to 8 pm for ensuring smooth flow of traffic.”

Stating that several times a number of ambulances also get stuck in jams here, Congress councillor from this ward (No 7) Bal Kishan Bali said, “The MC and traffic police should take the menace of jam seriously.”
