Delhi University employee's death Tribune News Service
New Delhi, October 10 Members of the Delhi University and College Karamchari Union (DUCKU), DUTA and DUSU, who were also joined by social activist Kavita Krishnan and Aam Aadmi Party leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Prof Yogendra Yadav today demonstrated in front of the Delhi Police Headquarters, demanding the arrest of Arora. DUTA president Nandita Narain said, "There is a complete collusion between the principal and the administration. The VC has always tried to crush dissent within the university and there have been many such cases. The police said it would deal with the case as per the merit of the case." NCW member Nirmala Samant Prabhakar said, "We have received the papers related to the case from all sides today and we are examining them. It will take a few days and for this we had recommended the VC to put the principal under suspension or send him on leave till the investigation is on for a fair process. Concerns have been raised on that the documents could be tampered with." It is learnt that the principal has put up notice that the employees participation in protests called by DUCKU amounts to working against the interests of the college, seen by DUCKU as a step to intimidate those going against him. "There is a dying declaration yet the principal has not been arrested. It is clear that he is politically protected. We demand an independent inquiry into the case," said AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. Prof Yadav said, "The behaviour of the police gives basis to suspect that it is under pressure from above. Even DU has almost come in defence of the principal." |

CM misleading people on power tariff issue: BJP
New Delhi, October 10 Goel said, "Power tariff in states like Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Haryana are much lower as compared to the existing power tariffs in Delhi. The Chief Minister is misleading the people of Delhi by making false claims. Cities like Chandigarh and Dehradun too have lower power tariffs." "It is surprising to see that the Delhi Government colludes with power discoms to fleece the people of Delhi. The Congress has allowed a hike of over 72 per cent in power tariff in the past couple of years and more than 300 per cent hike in power tariff in the past 10 years," Goel said. He said, "The power tariff slabs in Delhi are not consumer friendly. Several other states have better power tariff structure and offer flexibility to accommodate the power requirements of poor people." |
