The first-year students of the occupational therapy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Challenged today boycotted classes demanding better security on campus in the wake of allegation of ragging of a first-year student last Friday by the second-year students of physiotherapy.

However, the step is viewed to be an 'after-thought' in defence of an eve-teasing complaint filed by a second-year female student of physiotherapy discipline against the same first-year student who has also submitted a complaint to the administration, alleging ragging by seniors.

In all this, the administration while forming a five-member committee headed by an HoD occupational therapy Anup Agarwaal to look into the cross-allegation, remained in a fix as both the sides have refused to budge with the female complainant demanding a 'public apology' from the first-year student for alleged lewd remarks. The first year students in turn have called for disciplinary action against three seniors.

"He (first-year student) had been passing comments for several days and had even posted bad comments on social sites. That day too he was the first to provoke," said the female complainant.

On the other side, a few first year students said that the male student was bullied on the day of the incident and when he didn't cooperate, he was assaulted.

On the day of the incident, the first-year student was apparently asked by a group of seniors to wish the female complainant and following an altercation, he was allegedly beaten up by some of the seniors. Even police reached the site after being called by one of the parties following which the director of the institute Dr Dharmendra Kumar had to form a committee. The committee would give its report within seven days.

New Delhi, September 30
Seven students and three teachers were injured after they allegedly fell from a Mickey Mouse ride at an amusement park in Kalindi Kunj today.

About 9 am, 324 students of Victor Public School in Shahdara, east Delhi, arrived at the amusement park - Delhi Rides. Twenty-one teachers had accompanied the students.

About 11.30 am, seven students went to a ride, the Mickey Mouse Bouncy. As there was no guard or helper near the ride, three teachers also planned to join the ride. When they started bouncing on the Bouncy, the structure immediately deflated. Ten persons, including the teachers and the students, fell to the ground.

According to sources, the Mickey Mouse bouncy has a capacity of five persons, each weighing not more than 60 kg. But 10 persons were jumping on it and therefore it collapsed.

The injured were given first aid inside the amusement park. They were then taken to a nearby private hospital. "Three students out of seven were critically injured and have been shifted to Max Hospital in Saket. One student broke his teeth, whereas the other had a fracture in his jaw. The remaining students have been discharged," said a police officer.

After the injured were taken to the hospital, the remaining students continued to enjoy the rides at the amusement park. They left the place about 4 pm. The parents of the injured students were informed about the incident by the school staff.

Keep up Vikas Rally momentum in constituencies, Goel tells party workers
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 30
The BJP today directed its workers and all the ticket seekers to work in their respected constituencies with the momentum generated by the Vikas Rally of the saffron party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi yesterday.

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said, "The party's assembly poll campaign would now move on to the assembly segment level. The BJP has identified five key issues to focus on in the coming days which are - power, water, inflation, corruption and women's safety."

Goel said the BJP cadres would hold meetings in every assembly segment over the next few days and take these issues to the common people.

"The Congress is in a state of panic following the success of Vikas Rally. In fact it is very scared as the writing on the wall is clear that all sections of society have joined hands to oust the 'corrupt' Congress which has anti-people policies," the party president of Delhi unit said.

The presence of a large number of people from the Muslim community, youth and weaker sections of society in the rally is a clear evidence that people at large have lost faith in the Congress.

Goel also slammed the Congress leadership for putting up some hoardings and posters which were in bad taste, a night before the rally.

"In its desperation to cling on to power, the Congress has resorted to cheap tactics. This is deplorable. The Congress is using its dirty tricks," the Delhi BJP president added.
