Slapgate: Victim accused of corruption

The slapgate incident at the Municipal Corporation took yet another turn today
as the functionaries of the Rehri-Farhi Union, along with the activists of the Municipal Karamchari Dal (MKD), submitted a memorandum to the MC chief, levelling serious charges of corruption against the victim, Rajiv Bhardwaj, a superintendent.

MC to form 40 teams for recovery of arrears
Ludhiana, September 30
In the wake of poor recovery of mounting arrears of user charges relating to water supply and sewerage, the Municipal Corporation has decided to adopt tough postures against the defaulters. At a meeting of the field staff and officials of operation and maintenance (O&M) wing convened by Additional Commissioner Isha Kalia here today, the MC decided to constitute 40 teams of officials and field staff for the recovery of arrears.

Farmers hold protest outside DC office
Ludhiana, September 30
A large number of farmers led by the state committee of the All-India Kisan Sabha organised a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner office here today.
The farmers urged the government to stop the eviction of farmers from the cultivated land in "Bet" and
"Kandi" areas of the state and give the ownership rights to farmers, who have been cultivating the land for over five decades now.

Villagers oppose installation of water treatment plant

Residents of Jagraon Patti Malak village, located on the outskirts of Jagraon, have opposed the proposal of installation of a water treatment plant in their village. Apart from this, the villagers have also raised objections over the idea of drainage of sewerage via a drain passing through the village.

Teachers against compulsory remedial classes

The remedial coaching classes for science and maths held for the students of class IX in all the government schools in Punjab, seems to have become a "headache" for the teachers. Teachers are being asked by the department to take extra coaching classes of weak students of both these subjects, before or after the school timings. But the condition seems to be "unacceptable" to the teachers, who feel that department should give prerogative to school authorities to hire teachers from outside.

City centre project: Hope for allottees after three decades

There is a ray of hope for the allottees of 114 residential plots of 125 square yards each in the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Colony, developed by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT), and they might get physical possession of plots, which were allotted to them after a long wait of more than three decades.

Youth commits suicide

A 22-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house at Malikpur village here today.
The deceased has been identified as Manpreet Singh.
