Kuldeep Bishnoi begins poll campaign on Volvo ‘rath’ today
Hisar/Sirsa, October 5 Sources said a Volvo bus had been specially modified for the yatra. The bus was fitted with modern gadgets with facilities like conference and meeting rooms, Wi-Fi Internet connection besides telephone and TVs, they said. Senior HJC leader Devi Lal said besides Bishnoi, four leaders from each HJC and BJP would remain in the bus during the campaign. “We have planned to celebrate Dusshera at Jind and Diwali at Kurukshetra as the yatra will continue non-stop before culminating at Hisar on December 2 which is the founder’s day of the party,” he said adding that senior BJP leaders would also join Bishnoi from time to time during the campaign. HJC leader to leave party
Even as Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) workers are preparing for Kuldeep Bishnoi’s Vijay Rath Yatra beginning from Adampur tomorrow, the party is set to receive a big jolt in Sirsa before the yatra enters the district on October 20. Veer Bhan Mehta, a founder member of the HJC, is on his
way out from the party and he is set to announce his departure from the party on
October 16. Mehta, who held positions like district president and in charge of the Sirsa parliamentary constituency in the HJC, has called a meeting of his supporters here on October 16 to decide his future course of action.
Mehta had been feeling sidelined ever since Bishnoi’s cousin and former parliamentary secretary Dura Ram joined the party in December last year and was made in charge of the party affairs in the Sirsa parliamentary area. Appointments of some party office-bearers and Dura Ram’s statement disowning a candidate fielded jointly by Mehta and the BJP in byelection for Ward 8 of the Sirsa Municipal Council last month are said to be the main reasons for Mehta to leave the party. “My supporters have constantly been pressuring me to take a decision soon, as they feel I am being ignored by the party leadership now,” said Mehta. He said he would announce his decision after consulting his supporters on October 16. Bishnoi could not be contacted for comments, but Dura Ram said he had no idea why Mehta was disenchanted with the party. |

Rao Inderjit set to tilt political scales
Chandigarh, October 5 With the powerful Ahirwal leader keeping his cards close to his chest, opposition parties are already wooing the rebel Congress leader. The Congress, on the other hand, is hoping against the hope and expecting the former Union minister to reconsider his decision of “not to contest the next election on the Congress ticket”. While Rao Inderjit has given enough indications of keeping his options open, BJP president Rajnath Singh had recently gave enough indications of the party’s fascination for him. Even senior INLD leader Abhay Chautala had said Rao Inderjit was welcome to join the party to throw out the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government. The cosying up of both BJP and INLD to Rao Inderjit is not without reason. While the BJP wants to open its account in the Lok Sabha in Haryana and the INLD, out of power in the state for about nine years, is desperately trying to bounce back to power against the backdrop of jailing of INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala and his MLA son Ajay Chautala in the JBT teachers’ recruitment scam. Observers feel that any party’s alliance with the four-time legislator and three-time MP could give a tough time to the Congress government in the state in the coming parliamentary and Assembly elections. With anti-incumbency against the backdrop of the government’s various acts of omission and commission staring the Hooda government in the face, alliance of any party with Rao Inderjit could spell trouble for the Congress government in the next elections, the observers asserted. That is perhaps the reason the Congress high command has so far given a long rope to Rao Inderjit despite his repeated outbursts against Hooda for alleged bias in development and government jobs. |

On the issue of Himachal Pradesh's share in Chandigarh as raised by the Chief Minister of the state, Hooda said first Chandigarh should be given to Haryana and only then he would talk about the issues. Let Haryana get Chandigarh and its due share of water, then the issue could be sorted out through dialogue. On the future of the Indian National Lok Dal in Haryana, he said the party's future was bleak. Refusing to comment on the status of MP Rao Indrajit Singh after his recent declaration of not contesting the next election under the Congress banner, Hooda said, "Whether Rao Inderjeet stays in the party or not, is his personal decision. His reply to the party's notice on his declaration is between the party high command and him," he said. He refuted allegation of bias in development and quoted general secretary in charge of Haryana Shakeel Ahmed as saying that after his visit to Mewat and Sirsa, he had said emphasis had been laid on development of all areas. |
