Industrialist booked for fraud

The city police today booked an influential industrialist, Vikas Jain, Director of Oswal Apparels, on a charge of committing a fraud of over Rs 51 lakh. The case has been registered on the recommendation of a special investigation team (SIT).

Keep newborns’ photos in record: SMO
Ludhiana, October 5
Once bitten twice shy. The old adage holds true for Senior Medical Officer (SMO) RK Karkara. Two days after a controversy over the alleged swapping of a baby boy with a baby girl, the SMO today ordered the staff to get photographs of babies clicked at the time of the birth so that a proper record of the identity of the newborns can be maintained.

The controversy arising from the issue of alleged swapping of a newborn baby boy with a baby girl is not likely to end yet. However, the security lapse at the Civil Hospital has raised many questions and it is found that the security arrangements at the hospital are in a pitiable condition.

Health Dept, MC to hold anti-dengue drive

To check the spread of dengue in the city, the Health Department and the municipal corporation will start a joint drive from October 7. The Health Department has constituted 18 teams to make the public aware about the breeding of mosquitoes.

Report if schools demand donations: CBSE
Ludhiana, October 5
With the admission process going to start in leading schools from December, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), to generate awareness amongst the masses, has asked the parents to report to the board if the schools, affiliated with the CBSE, asked for any donations from them. The board may has taken a decision to put up a notice on its website sensitising public that schools can’t ask for donations, the managements of leading private schools have now started asking for the development-funds for the school instead of donations from the parents.

A large number of residents, including women, of Kothe Fatehdeen village, located on the outskirts of Jagraon, today staged a protest outside the Jagraon city police station to lodge their protest against the delay in the arrest of the village Sarpanch, who has been accused of raping a minor Dalit girl of the same village.

Halt trains at Samrala: Residents
Samrala, October 5
Residents hold a protest at the railway station in Samrala on Saturday Hundreds of workers of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and some other organisations staged a dharna at the Samrala railway station against the non-stoppage of trains here. Addressing the protesters, Jathedar Kirpal Singh Khirnia and former MLA Jagjivan Singh Khirnia alleged that though farmers of the area had given land to the Railways Department, they were not getting any facility.

‘Regularise unauthorised colonies by October 7’

Student honoured
A resident of Koom Kalan village was honored at Lawrence School, Sanawar, for scoring maximum marks in science stream by Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff. Navjot Kaur Atwal, who is studying at Sanawar School, topped the institution with 95.5 per cent marks. She was honoured during the annual school function by Chief of Army Staff of Nepal General Gaurav Shamsher Jang Bahadar Rana with a gold medal, who was guest of honour, during the school function.

Youth booked for eve-teasing
Ludhiana: The police has booked Gagan Dutt of Punjabi Bagh Colony for teasing a girl. The victim said she was going for tuition when Gagan passed nasty comments about her. When she objected, he threatened her with a sword and said he would kill the girl and her family.

Gang of swindlers busted
Mandi Ahmedgarh, October 5
The Sadar police has booked five members of a gang of swindlers, including two women, for allegedly duping innocent youths of over Rs 25 lakh on the pretext of getting them government jobs and sending them abroad. Four of the suspects belong to a family of Dugri village in Malerkotla tehsil.
