Delhi elections: BJP to begin campaign today
New Delhi, September 16 The party has formed different committees to organize the rally. All these committees are working to make it a grand success. The rally will also set the tone for the BJP ahead of the election. The campaign will focus on the issues of inflation, power, water, corruption, lack of development in rural areas, unauthorized colonies, JJ clusters and slums. The party will unveil a range of publicity material on the occasion. It will be used by the party cadres to expose the Congress' false claims and present BJP's positive agenda for Delhi. BJP Delhi president Vijay Goel said, "Armed with this publicity material, the BJP cadres will visit every household under the slogan, 'Ghar-ghar Bhajapa' to expose the 'misdeeds' of the Congress in the past 15 years. While the BJP is working towards mobilizing all sections of society, the party's special focus is on the poor, youth and those living in unauthorized colonies, JJ clusters, slums and rural areas." |
AISA sweeps JNUSU polls
New Delhi, September 16 While in three posts of president, vice-president and secretary, the AISA continued to lead until late last night before sweeping them by massive margins this morning when the final tally was declared, it was the competition between AISA's joint secretarial Sarfaraz Hamid and Sonam Goyal of Democratic Students' Federation (DSF) which was a thing to watch out. As Sonam had been ahead of Sarfaraz until late night while the counting progressed at the School of Languages (SOL), which has a largest strength of 1597, it was only after the counting of 4,155 votes Sarfaraz managed to have an edge before clinching the post securing 1,705 votes, a margin of 59 votes over her while AISA's lead continued consistently over the other three top panel posts. In the race of president, AISA's Akbar Chowdhary finished the highest at 1,977, winning by a margin of 1,317 votes as compared to its rival Democratic Students' Federation (DSF) Ishan; its Anubhuti Agnes Bara topped on vice-president post with 1,966 votes with a margin of 1,052 votes over her rival Zeeshan from the DSF while Sandeep Saurav was elected general secretary with 1,657 votes, which is a margin of 953 votes over his nearest rival from NSUI's Caroline. When the final announcement was made after over three and a half days of rigorous counting of ballot papers, winners were seen celebrating through rhythmic claps, songs and slogans raised in favour of student movements, with the visible chunk being that of AISA. It should actually be a relief for the nearly 30-odd members of the JNU election commission who were involved in counting but even to them as said by the electoral officer Gyan Prakash Gupta, the entire electoral process of JNUSU is nothing less than a celebration with students enjoying every bit of it and this is why they prefer ballot paper system over EVMs. A jubilant Akbar Chowdhary, the newly elected JNUSU president, said, "We will take forward a series of student-youth initiatives against communalism, including the UPSC's decision to scrap foreign languages as optional in the UPSC exam." |
