While speaking at a talk “Role of Youth in Democracy” organised by one of the societies of St Stephen’s College, Delhi University, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal today exhorted students to participate in politics to reposition a weakening democracy. Be the change to see the change in the country’s system, he said.

Fully utilising the opportunity ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, he lashed out at the Congress Party-led governments both at the Centre and Delhi, BJP and Samajwadi Party accusing them of indulging in “appeasement and vote bank politics”.

During the course followed by a Q&A session, starting from “secularism in politics”, Batla House encounter, increased power tariffs and corruption, the former revenue service official looked quite comfortable in his bid to connect to young students as he spoke at length about the genesis of AAP and its prime focus on creating a “corruption-free country”.

“The country’s youth need to connect with politics and be a part of the political change. Join any political party you wish, be it Congress, BJP, SP or AAP. It is your decision but don’t stay away from it,” he said while informing that nearly 7,000 young boys and girls have joined AAP as volunteers.

While referring to the Anna Hazare-led anti-corruption movement that created ripples two years ago, he said, “In our country politics is not secular and all political parties have only worked towards building their vote banks. For two years, the Anna Hazare-led movement for a Jan Lokpal has united people across religions and we are furthering it.”

Express views on including Mathura in NCR, UP told

New Delhi, August 23
Mathura could well become the next district to be included in the National Capital Region (NCR). The National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) has asked the UP Government to send its views on the demands put forth by the leaders of the region for inclusion of the district in the NCR.

Responding to a request by BJP’s national media convener Shrikant Sharma, the NCRPB Chief Regional Planner Rajeev Malhotra has asked UP Principal Secretary (Housing) Sada Kant to send views and comments on the issue to the Board.

Sharma had written to the NCRPB to include the Mathura district in the NCR for better development and connectivity of the region. The NCR had recently undergone another expansion with three more districts - Mahendragarh and Bhiwani (both in Haryana) and Bharatpur (Rajasthan), bringing the number of districts in the NCR to 19 and increasing the area to 45,887sq km.—TNS
