Congress tells block, district committees to work in tandem
New Delhi, August 17 Sources said that the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee has given this direction following a suggestion of the AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi who wants the work to be done at the grassroot level. Following his suggestion, the DPCC held a meeting of three committees today. The DPCC also called its women activists and held a meeting on “Empowered Women, Empowering India” after the idea of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and the DPCC president Jai Prakash Agarwal were also seen at the function. A senior DPCC leader said that the Congress is planning to find out ways to convince the electorate that the allegations levelled by the BJP have no basis as inflation is an international phenomenon. Besides, the rising prices of onion will not make people leave the Congress simply because they know that bad weather has affected the supply of vegetables, according to the senior leader. The Congress has also asked its workers to find out the areas where the party is not strong and then the reasons for its weakness. Once the details are collected, the party leaders will focus on these areas to ensure the party’s victory. |

Respect norms of democratic behaviour, says Bassi
New Delhi, August 17 “People will get opportunity to articulate their anger. But remember, we are a democratic polity. In a democratic polity we have to respect the boundaries of law otherwise any expression of anger can be too anarchic,” said Bassi at Shri Ram College of Commerce’s (SRCC) Youth Conference. Bassi said the moment people cross the norms of democratic behaviour, the results will be “disastrous”. Bassi, an alumnus of SRCC of 1975 batch, was felicitated at the conference for the laurels he has achieved during his career. “My journey in SRCC was sweet and eventful. I still remember my teachers. Whatever I learnt from them, has helped me in my life,” he said adding he never took interest to participate in debates during his college life. “I must tell you all that everybody who gets into Shri Ram has some basic intellect and basic requisite qualification which can take you anywhere,” he said. The daylong youth conference had debates and discussions where Kiran Bedi, Sonia Singh, Prabhu Chawla and a host of other eminent personalities were present.—PTI |
