Police told to seal mineral water factory
Phagwara, August 16 Dr Balbir Singh, Civil Surgeon, Kapurthala, said action against this factory could also be taken under Food Safety Act. Meanwhile, Satnampura police station SHO Karnail Singh said the matter was brought to the notice of the police by Deepak Bhardwaj who alleged that they had organised a langar and booked 1,000 cases of mineral water named “Aqua Shiv” from A Kumar Industries. Bhardwaj said the factory could be exposed yesterday when the owners refused to give back Rs 15,000/- of 500 boxes which could not be delivered to them. He said when they came to the alleged accused, they refused to give their amount. On suspicion they entered the factory and saw that normal water was being filled in the glasses without any filter. They, then lodged a complaint with the police and also informed District Health Officer Dr Guriqbal Singh, who along with his team took samples of the alleged contaminated water. Meanwhile SHO Karnail Singh said, a case of fraud could also be registered against the accused who have been rounded up, after getting the details from the Health Department. Meanwhile the accused are denying any foul play. |

Husband, in-laws booked for woman’s death
Hoshiarpur, August 16 The police said Rapjeet Kaur was married to Gagandeep Singh in 2011. After some time the accused allegedly started torturing her for bringing dowry. On the evening of August 13, Rapjeet Kaur telephoned her parents and told them that her in-laws were demanding Rs 2 lakh. Pal Singh and his wife immediately rushed to her daughter's in-laws' house. After reaching there they saw Rapjeet Kaur struggling for life. They immediately took her to the local Civil Hospital from where she was referred to the DMC, Ludhiana. She died on the way. The police has arrested Gagandeep Singh and raids were being conducted to nab other accused.

Four killed in road accident
Tarn Taran, August 16 Four persons were killed in the accident. They belonged to Kadgill village. The devotees, who had left for pilgrimage four days ago, belonged to Bhullar, Kadgill, Ghasitpur villages and from Tarn Taran. They had gone to pay obeisance at dera Baba Wadbhag Singh. Amandeep Singh Bhullar, a resident of Bhullar village, said the truck belonged to Soni, son of Pal Singh, of the same village. — OC
