forum Gurdeep Singh Mann Tribune News Service
Bathinda, June 27 In his complaint, Ajaib Singh said he had purchased a scooter (4SDX) from the Kissan Electricals Private Limited, an authorised dealer of the LML Limited, near Rose Garden Market, with one-year warranty on January 18 last year. The vehicle had some manufacturing defect and was giving problems. The complainant approached the dealer who got it repaired by changing some of its parts. The ignition switch, starter, CDI unit flash make, head lamp and engine piston, ring and wrist pin of the vehicle were changed. The engine of the vehicle was opened within 10 months of its purchase, but despite repairs, the vehicle was giving problems constantly. The complainant requested the dealer to replace the scooter with a new one, but the dealer refused to pay any heed to his request. The dealer informed him that if there was any problem it would carry out its repairs only during the warranty period. The complainant then sent a legal notice to the opposite parties on December 19, 2012, and on December 29, 2012. The complainant then moved an application in the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum seeking directions to get the scooter changed. The LML Limited, Kanpur, claimed that the complainant failed to place on file any expert evidence to prove that there was any manufacturing defect in the scooter. All complaints of the complainant were duly attended and the parts, if any, found defective were duly replaced under warranty to his satisfaction, the opposite party stated. It also stated that the reply to the legal notice was given on January 7, 2013. After filing the complaint, the customer again visited on February 26, 2013, when there was a problem regarding leakage. The air cleaner was changed under warranty and the complainant had signed the customer contact report that the said vehicle has been attended to his entire satisfaction. The Forum, after listening to the arguments and pleadings of both parties, observed that the change of vehicle parts were sufficient to show that there was some inherit manufacturing defect in the scooter and repeated visits and rectification of the defects as well as replacement of the certain parts proved insufficient to remove the defects. The Forum observed deficiency in the service on the part of the opposite parties and accepted the complaint with Rs 3,000 as the cost and compensation against the opposite parties who are also directed to refund the amount of Rs 51,350 ( the price of the said scooter). In case of non-compliance, the interest at the rate of 9 per cent per annum would yield on the amount of Rs 51,350 till realisation. |
Pvt educational institutes making a beeline to Bathinda
Bathinda, June 27 While the Aryans Group of Colleges organised a scholarship mela in the city on Tuesday, the Chandigarh University opened its counselling centre a couple of months ago. Admission counsellors of the GNA Institute of Management and Technology, Phagwara, organised a walk-in session on Wednesday. Speaking to Bathinda Tribune, the chairman of the Aryans Group of Colleges, Anshu Kataria maintained that Bathinda has started attracting private institutes since it is the hub of education in the Malwa region. “Bathinda is the hotline and lifeline of the Malwa region. It is surrounded by various smaller towns and districts. The city is also the political capital of the region. Taking all these facts into consideration, we decided to open our gates to Bathinda and make its students aware of our colleges,” he said. Although earlier his institution used to organise on-the-spot counselling activities, this year he decided to give it a push by investing a lot of money in bringing Punjabi film stars Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa to perform in the city. “It is a win-win situation. The film got promoted, our institute also got some promotion and students got to know details about our institute. As many as 100 applicants are seeking scholarship to take admission in various courses being offered by us,” he added. The Vice-chancellor of the Chandigarh University, RS Bawa, said the university opened its counselling and admission office here to help students. “We have been getting a sizeable number of students from Bathinda and so we thought of setting up an office in the city to facilitate aspirants. Earlier, students had to come all the way to the university and now, we are offering them the service in their own city. Students from far-off places like Sangrur, Fazilka and Ferozepur besides surrounding areas come to the city for academic purposes,” he said. Educationists say a spurt in the number of coaching institutes in the city has also contributed towards bringing private institutes to the city. “Over the years, Bathinda has become the coaching hub of the region. Students from other places come here to take coaching for various competitive examinations. The private institutions want to target these students to take admission in their colleges,” said the owner of a coaching institute in the city.

MC Darbara Singh said he had repeatedly raised the issue with the authorities, but has failed to get respite for the area. He added that the MC workers had cleared the pipes today, but was a temporary relief. |
