Traffic jams test commuters’ patience
New Delhi, May 20 Traffic on Prithviraj Road and other roads leading to India Gate moved at a snail’s pace in the morning. People reached their offices late. As the traffic was totally stopped, people were seen sitting on the lawns. They had to wait for more than an hour to go to their destinations. Buses were diverted from India Gate. T. Malik who has her office on Barakhamba Road reached one hour late. She said that the authorities concerned should sufficiently publicise the diversion and closure of roads so that people could avoid them. Harinder Singh who has a motor parts shop in Karol Bagh said he reached his workplace about half an hour late. He had to change many roads in order to come to Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. Commuters complain that the police do not plan properly about the routes whenever a foreign VIP visits Delhi. The local people suffer as a consequence. Those who travel in Metro trains also suffered as Race Course, Udyog Bhawan, Central Secretariat and Khan Market stations were closed from 8 am to 10 am. |
