Hundreds of applicants at Suwidha Centre inconvenienced
Jalandhar, April 25 It being a public holiday yesterday on account of Mahavir Jayanti, there was a huge rush of applicants at all counters this morning. Only a few applicants managed to take token for getting their work done this morning after which the power went off in the entire DC office, making them wait endlessly for systems to get working again at their respective counters. Since the entire public dealing time from 9 am to 2:30 pm was lost, the Suwidha Centre failed to render any services throughout the day. The applicants for the learner driving licence were the biggest sufferers, as they kept standing for hours in the long queues with some hope of the counters becoming functional, but to no avail. It was around noon that after a wait of two hours or more, the applicants started returning home. A tired and upset Pardeep Singhcis five hours since I am waiting for the power to restore so that I might not have to return tomorrow again for getting the same work done”, he seemed tired and upset. Another applicant Rajinder Singh said that he was stuck at the token counter since morning just hoping that it would start operating soon. “I had thought that my work would be done in minutes through Suwidha Centre, but I have been much inconvenienced. The administration should have at least informed us about the problem in advance so that we could have at least saved our day,” he fumed. Owing to the server problem, the entire computerisation system remained paralysed even in the DTO office. Most counters, including those for the online deposition of the fee, had to be kept closed with only some manual work done. The photography and delivery of the licences went on as the SmartChip company had a power back-up for its own systems, said DTO Dalwinder Jit Singh. ADC (G) Praneet Bhardwaj said the power shutdown led to the problem. |

Govt school students to be trained in soft skills
Aparna Banerji Tribune News Service
Jalandhar, April 25 To prevent the lack of knowledge in the language from acting as a dampener for their future or job prospects, the state government has begun soft skill classes for students across the state. The classes, which started from April 15 are meant to brush up the English and communication skills of students. They will see students getting trained under the Edusat programme, receiving lessons from experts as well as their own class teachers. DGSE, Kahan Singh Pannu said, “English is a global language and it is important for students to be well equipped in it. The new course will be a part of the regular curriculum, where students’ English skills will be brushed up. The soft skill classes will prepare them for better jobs as well”. Cast of ‘Rangeelay’ comes to town
Jalandhar, April 25 It could be a “bigrail (spoiled) nawaab”, or a self-respecting cop, there is always this unmistakable aura about the actor which makes his presence highly notable and an asset for all the projects that he has been associated with. While the industry has seen him and lauded him for his various acts, which lately, have been making him ever more popular, Punjab respects him for the religious zeal with which he has stuck on to the cinema of the region, dishing out various hits for the state audience. As he stepped on to the campus of the Lovely Professional University with his lovely and talented co-star Neha Dhupia as well as caste members (director Navniat Singh and writer Dhiraj Ratan) of his upcoming Punjabi flick Rangeelay, the actor’s chaste Punjabi and “need” to entertain charmed. On asked what his next film Rangeelay is all about and he started off, “The entire film is about punches (humour).” While Dharti, his previous outing as a producer in Punjabi cinema, was loved, this time he wanted to do something a bit more funny and in Rangeelay he got the perfect answer. “I wanted to come back this time with a full on masala entertainer. I wanted to make a film for the kids (niyaneyan vaste) who were not exactly the target audience for Dharti. Something that the younger people would enjoy as well. I missed out on them with Dharti. So, this time I needed a full on entertainer.” When asked Dharti is considered a milestone in Punjabi cinema from where they got bigger and better. How does he feel to shoulder the responsibility? He said, “I am grateful for the fact that people liked it. In fact it is the only Punjabi film to be showcased at the Goa International Film Festival. It will also be screened at the Ladakh Film Festival. So it feels great to be a part of such a project.” However, Dharti is just part of the Jimmy Shergill story. Prodded to share what his message would be for the young, the actor shared his apprehensions on whether messages are always needed. In an age where most filmmakers try to manage a tight ropewalk between the critics and the audience (sometimes at the cost of the cause of cinema), Jimmy politely, but surely, decided to side with the latter. “I have made movies which have given out stark, real messages. I have done film on politics and sports (Tair Mittran Di) but I feel it is important to listen to the audiences as well. I feel they always does not need a message. There are times when they need to be entertained and that?s what I want to do. While there are many people making experimental films, there is always the need for some people who might offer pure fun to the audience. With Rangeelay, we attempt to do that.” While his upcoming projects are Rangeelay and Bullet Raja, the former is slated for a 17 May release and the latter (Bullet Raja) would release on September 6. Good role for Dhupia
Dhupia is one of the most matter-of-fact and talented actors that Bollywwod has today. While she has her niche audience in Bollywood, in Punjab Dhupia she is genuinely excited for the upcoming project — an excitement she shares with the audience keen to watch her. Speaking to the press at the Lovely Professional University, she said, “I am basically from a Sikh family. So I always wanted to do a Punjabi film. With Rangeelay, I got the opportunity. When I was offered Rangeelay, I was very excited, although I hid my emotions when I was being told this. In about one hour I said yes to “It is one of the best roles of my life. And that is one of the greatest reasons that I did it. Me and Jimmy had last worked together in Delhi Heights and seven years have really made Jimmy a better man and a better actor,” she added. Dhupia will next be seen in Rangeelay (releasing on May 17) and Unglee (which again incidentally shares its release date with Jimmy’s next September 6 film. |
