Badal’s photos likely to be removed from ambulances
Dharmendra Joshi/TNS

Jalandhar, March 17
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s photographs may soon be removed from 108 ambulances. Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad reportedly issued directions in this regard to his staff, as the matter had been brought to his notice by Punjab Youth Congress (PYC) president Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary recently.

Taking a strict note of the bid to reap credit for the Centre-sponsored scheme by the ruling Akali Dal in Punjab by carrying Badal’s photos on these ambulances, the Union Health Minister reportedly issued directions to all non-Congress governments to stop taking credit for the Centre-sponsored facility and inscribe “National Ambulance Service” in English, Hindi and the regional language with the logo of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) by April 1.

The Union Health Minister issued these instructions to his staff to ask non-Congress government to do so by April 1 in the presence of Punjab Youth Congress (PYC) president Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary when he met him in this regard in New Delhi on Friday evening.

EARLIER STORIES

As many as 240 ambulances, under the 108 ambulance service, have been catering to patients free of cost all over the state. The ambulance service was provided by the Central Government to the State Health Department under the NRHM, but it carried Badal’s photo.

The PYC had also launched a state-wide protest against the SAD government for the removal of Badal’s photos from the 108 ambulances. PYC president Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary and several others were also arrested and cases of defacing government property have been registered against them.
