Police remand for aiding terrorist

Sukhwant Singh, alias Baba Ballu, a resident of Jalalabad village, 30 km from here, who was booked under Sections 212 and 216 of the IPC by the Verowal police for  providing shelter to terrorist Narain Singh Chaura has been sent for a two-day police remand.

5 arrested in dowry cases
Hoshiarpur, February 28
Two cases for torturing and maltreating brides by members of their in-laws family for bringing dowry from their parents have been reported in the district. The Tanda police has booked Jaswinder Singh, his father Kapoor Singh, mother Gurdeep Kaur, sister Harwinder Kaur, all of Ward 3, Tanda, under Sections 323, 324, 406 and 498 A of the IPC for beating, torturing and maltreating Kuljit Kaur, wife of the former, for bringing dowry and cash from her parents.

Police remand for aiding terrorist

Sukhwant Singh, alias Baba Ballu, a resident of Jalalabad village, 30 km from here, who was booked under Sections 212 and 216 of the IPC by the Verowal police for 
providing shelter to terrorist Narain Singh Chaura has been sent for a two-day police remand.

Chaura was arrested by a joint police party of the local district police and the Amritsar Police from Jalalabad village yesterday.

Sukhwant Singh was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Rajwinder Kaur here today.

The court sent him to two-day police remand, said Kulwinder Singh, Investigation Officer (IO).

5 arrested in dowry cases

Two cases for torturing and maltreating brides by members of their in-laws family for bringing dowry from their parents have been reported in the district.

The Tanda police has booked Jaswinder Singh, his father Kapoor Singh, mother Gurdeep Kaur, sister Harwinder Kaur, all of Ward 3, Tanda, under Sections 323, 324, 406 and 498 A of the IPC for beating, torturing and maltreating Kuljit Kaur, wife of the former, for bringing dowry and cash from her parents.

The police said Kuljit Kaur was married to Jaswinder Singh, who had permanently settled in Germany, on July 7, 2007. Her parents gave gold weighing 450 gm and 5 lakh at the time of her marriage. Her husband demanded Rs 10 lakh for opening a restaurant in Germany.

The Model Town police has booked Ravi Kumar and his mother Kulwinder Kaur, residents of Rahimpur, under Section 498 A of the IPC for torturing and maltreating Saloni, daughter of Dharam Pal of local Ghaian Mohalla for bringing dowry from her parents.

The police said Saloni was married to Ravi Kumar. Ravi Kumar and his mother tortured and maltreated Saloni for bringing dowry from her parents. The police has arrested Ravi Kumar. Kulwinder Kaur was still at large.
