Woman-driven autos to run on city roads
New Delhi, February 22 The government is working upon a project to launch a cluster of around 8,000 autos, of which it has reserved at least 1,000 to be managed and controlled by women. Once the outline of the service is completed, which will make auto-rickshaws only a phone call away, the government has decided to invite suggestions on the proposal. "The rising complaints of women being harassed by auto-drivers made us think of this initiative. The behaviour of auto-drivers has become rude and usually makes the travel an unpleasant experience. The names and other details of the drivers are not available to the passenger," said a senior Delhi Transport official. "By having women-driven autos in the city, the transport will not only become women-friendly, but will also help them in getting employment," he said. The passengers could call autos at their doorsteps at any time of the day. The auto-rickshaw drivers as well as the vehicles will be part of a central database at the call centre, which makes them easy to track. This increases the reliability and safety of the service, especially for women. The service level of this system will be further improved by tying up the service with the recently introduced GPS enabled auto-rickshaws. Overall the system will provide a huge benefit to all users. |

Semi-open jail for 24 inmates
While focusing on reformation and rehabilitation, the Tihar Prisons authorities have selected 24 prisoners to lodge them in its semi-open jail.
According to jail officials, these prisoners have an excellent conduct inside the prison, are hard-working and willing to abide by the rules and regulations of the semi-open jail.
