MC’s house tax branch officials get notices

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has issued show-cause notices to officials of the house tax branch after the MC Commissioner termed the recovery drive unsatisfactory.

Govt orders cancellation of allotment of land
Ludhiana, February 22
Taking cognisance of a complaint lodged by the Council of RTI Activists, which was highlighted in these columns on November 30, 2012, the Local Government Department, Punjab, ordered the cancellation of the allotment of 3,556 square yards by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) to the Welfare Council, J-Block, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, for a community centre.

Service lanes cleared of encroachments

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation’s tehbazaari branch conducted an anti-encroachment drive on the service lanes, between Gulmohar Hotel and Sidhwan Canal, on the left side of Ferozepur Road today.

Imposition of property tax opposed
Ludhiana, February 22
Opposing the imposition of property tax, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) submitted a memorandum to the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Commissioner at Zone A office today. The civic body had given 30 days' time to residents for filing objections.

Suicide drama outside MC office

High drama was witnessed at the Municipal Corporation’s Zone B office in the old city area this afternoon after a resident shot off a suicide note to the Zonal Commissioner, PS Ghuman, for not issuing TS-1 certificate for his land at Vishvakarma Colony.

International Cycle expo kicks off

A three-day International Cycle Expo began at the Government College for Women. The expo will showcase brand new technology, hi-tech products and the accomplishments made in the world of cycle industry. Nearly 35,000 people from across the world, especially China, Taiwan, Sri Lanka and the UK are expected to visit the expo.

No takers for hotel site GLADA cancels auction
Ludhiana, February 22
The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) found no buyers for its hotel site in Sector 32-A on Chandigarh Road and the auction scheduled to be conducted at the GLADA office today for the sale of 8,615 square yard chunk of commercial site, had to be cancelled.

Ex-cop’s relatives accused of misappropriating funds 
Ludhiana, February 22
Former DSP (Vigilance), Punjab Police, Gurcharan Singh who was jailed in a corruption case, appears to be in the dock again. A resident of Pabbian village near Mullapur has filed a complaint against Singh's brother and sister-in-law alleging they misused government funds for personal gains.

Man held with stolen motorcycle
Ludhiana, February 22
The Salem Tabri police arrested a person with a stolen motorcycle at Mohalla Peeru Banda last evening. The accused has been identified as Mandeep Singh, a resident of Jawahar Nagar camp. On seeing the police, the accused tried to flee, however, he was nabbed following a hot chase. Mandeep confessed to the crime. The police has impounded the motorcycle and booked the accused under Sections 379, 411, 465,468, 471, 473 IPC for vehicle lifting.

Ludhiana, February 22
The 40th edition of the Senior Punjab State Bodybuilding Championship will be organised by the Punjab Amateur Bodybuilding Association (PABA) at Mangla Gaushala Asharm, near Sugar Mill, Dhuri, on February 24, Dr Randhir Hastir, president of the association, said.
