Gurdaspur, February 4
With the arrest of two persons, the police claims to have cracked the Warsola village double murder case in which two petrol pump employees were shot dead on January 8.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Inspector-General (border range) RP Mittal said the accused had been identified as Rakesh Kumar and Ibrahim Masih. Their third accomplice, Younis Masih, however, was still at large, he said. The accused tri belong to a village near Warsola.

Robbery was the motive behind the crime, the Inspector-General said.

Mittal said a team led by Senior Superintendent of Police Raj Jit Singh was assigned the case. He, however, failed to give any satisfactory reply as to why the police took nearly a month to track down the accused.

“It was a blind murder case. We traced nearly 8,000 calls and half the area police force was put on duty to hunt down the murderers,” Inspector-General (border range) RP Mittal said.

The twin murders had sent shock waves through the city when cousins Manohar Singh and Vinod Singh were gunned down by a few unidentified persons, all in their mid-thirties. Another worker had sustained serious injuries in the shootout.
