Live-in partner files rape case
Man held before he could marry another girl
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, January 31
A 22-year-old woman registered a case of rape against her onetime live-in partner after she learnt that he was getting married to another woman.
According to the police, the woman alleges that she had been living with him for the last five years at east Delhi's Farsh Bazar.

The matter came to light after the victim went to the wedding venue where her live-in partner, Ankit Shetty, was getting married. She told the people about her relationship with the man. It was after she created a scene at the venue that somebody made a call to the police.

The police reached the venue and took the woman to the police station where it registered an FIR on the basis of her complaint.

The police has registered a case of rape and cheating. It has arrested the accused before he could marry.

The woman had been staying with Shetty, a businessman, at an apartment in east Delhi's Farsh Bazar area for the last five years. The victim had met him in Rohini where he proposed to marry her and the two started living together.

The victim alleged that Ankit had secretly married her at a temple in Haridwar a year ago. Seven months ago, he told her that his parents were coming to stay with him in his Farsh Bazar flat and requested her to shift somewhere else. She believed him and shifted her residence, but the accused started avoiding her and even stopped taking her calls.

It was only on Wednesday evening that she found out that he was getting married.

Dead body of woman found

New Delhi, January 31
A semi-nude body of a woman with her face half burnt and hands tied was found at a park in outer Delhi's Vijay Vihar today.
A passerby had seen the body and made a call to the police control room. A police official said that the identity of the victim was yet to be established. Investigators suspect the woman to be about 25 years old.

"We found nothing that could help establish her identity. She was probably killed late on Wednesday night," a police official said.

The assailants also tried to burn the victim's face to make the body unidentifiable. "We are not ruling out the possibility of rape before murder, but it would be clear only after the postmortem report," the official added.

There was no sign of fire at the spot which indicates that the body was brought from somewhere. The death, said the police, could have happened due to strangulation. "There is no outward injury on her body and the victim could have been killed by strangulation," the official added.

Investigating officials said that they have informed the nearby police stations about the body in a bid to identify it.

A team is also conducting a door-to-door survey to identify her.

The body has been preserved at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital for the postmortem.

Onion hoarders to get the stick
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, January 31
The Delhi government today reviewed the situation arisen out of the rise in prices of onions in recent past and decided to get tough with the hoarders.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that the government has also addressed a letter to the Union Agriculture Minister to intervene and take action in getting the export of onions curtailed at the earliest. This would bring the desired improvement in the prices, said Dikshit.

She said that it was decided to keep a close watch on the situation. In a meeting chaired by Dikshit, it was stated by the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) that the price situation may ease in a fortnight after the arrival of the stock from the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.

The onion being the largest consumable thing by the poor, Dikshit instructed the department to take all possible measures to reduce the prices.

"The department has been asked to keep a watch on the market trends and take strict action against the hoarders," she said.

The meeting was also attended by Food and Supply Minister Haroon Yusuf and PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan.
