Poor performing cops to face punishment: SSP
Dehradun January 2 In this task, lectures would also be given by retired Deputy Superintendents of Police. After such workshop, a test would be given where poor performing IOs would be attached with police lines. He said the thrust of the workshop would be to take the cases to their logical end and also to increase the conviction rate. He said in most of the matter, public was coming directly to him than going to police stations, which reflected the attitude of policemen working at police stations. He said he would closely monitor those police stations, where public approached him more than contacting the police station and would transfer such police station in charges. Regardless of their performance, he said he would shift constables and sub-constables who had been serving for long period in one police station or police post. It is from now, he said, policemen of any police station would be provided flexibility to crack case of any other police station. It means, if police men of other police station come to know of the whereabouts of the culprits wanted in a case which come under the domain of other police station, even then they could track and arrest the culprits for which they would be awarded, whereas the police station in charge who lagged behind in cracking a case under him would be punished for the laxity. The competition would help in solving cases faster.
Going gets tough
Investigating officers under each circle will be given training for better investigation
Officers will have to take exams and those performing poorly will be sent to police lines
Police stations to be monitored closely
Constables who have been serving for long in one police station to be shifted

Irregularities in garbage disposal work exposed
Dehradun, January 2 Addressing a press conference in Dehradun today, Abhijay Negi from MAD today disclosed that they had sought queries from the Dehradun Municipal Corporation under the Right to Information Act regarding solid disposal mechanism. He said the response to the RTI had revealed that DVWM, employed by the Dehradun Municipal Corporation, was still to start recycling of waste collected from the city. "This was a serious matter. The DVWM is already working in Dehradun for the past one year but was still to start to recycling of waste", Negi said. The corporation had also held that about 150 tonnes of solid waste was being collected daily from Dehradun and dumped in the Sahastradhara trenching ground, but the question on how the waste was being disposed was left unanswered, Negi pointed out. The Municipal Corporation also said that there were a total of 194 compact and 48 dump bins in the city. Negi said there was no mechanism to even separate bio-degradable and non-degradable waste. Abhijay Negi said they had even sought an audience from the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna to inform him about solid waste disposal problem of the state but were yet to get an appointment. |
Fish market to be shifted
Dehradun January 2 Later, it was decided to shift the vendors' market near the railway track on Mata Mandir Road and some of the vendors near the bus-stand at Raipur. The fish market will be relocated at scrap dealers' market (Kabadi bazaar) near the bypass where Chamoli said no resident locality would oppose the existence of the fish market. For the Sunday market at the Lanse Down crossing, an open area near a call centre close to the ISBT was chosen. It was decided to construct a link road from Mahboob Colony to Niranjanpur Road up to Saharnpur Road. The nomad community will be rehabilitated under the Rajiv Awas Yojana. The Mayor said, “These people who had been earning by making iron tools are unable to make living through this small trade. People no longer show interest in buying unpolished and crude iron things from them. These people are also no longer keen on moving from one city to another and prefer to live at one place where they can have decent mode of livelihood and arrangement of schooling for their children. So we have decided to relocate them from road sides to sprawling land at Lalpul in the city.” The Dehradun Municipal Corporation has approved a budget of Rs 25 lakh for relocation of the vendor zone and the Sunday market. In the vendor zone, 18 vegetable sellers from the tehsil crossing and five shopkeepers will be shifted. |

It means a lot to me. It has been a memorable stay," added Tendulkar. A relaxed and clean-shaven Tendulkar said, "For the past 23 years, the cricket schedule has been very tight and I could get a few occasions to spend with the family. Here I was able to have long walks and appreciate the beautiful of the town and how fabulous the place is." “I have my privacy here and I thank media for this. I played badminton, table tennis and cricket also," said the ace cricketer. Pouring his heart out, Tendulkar said, "Although I am not part of the team now, my heart is always with the team. I will support the team in every way. And I have no doubt that the team is going to bounce back in the series." During his stay several dignitaries from the state government paid obeisance to the god of the cricket in the past few days, which included MDDA vice-chairman Meenakshi Sundaram, MC president OP Uniyal, elected members of the Landour Cantt Board etc. His fans also got the rare opportunity to meet him and were able to get his an autograph. Famously called Master Blaster, Tendulkar has shown his keenness to become the brand ambassador of the sports department in the country and he has written to the ministry in this regard. This was corroborated by Union Minster of Sports Bhanwar Jitendar Singh during his stay in Mussoorie. Other celebrities such as Kabir Khan and Arshad Warsi also left for their homes after a brief holiday in the town. However, the presence of the celebrities at the highly sensitive zone of the Landour Cantt Board that houses Army installations like the Institute of Technology Management (ITM) and a Doordarshan relay centre has raised the security concerns and many Army officials under anonymity believe this. Meanwhile, the property of Dhalia Bank in the Landour Cantt area, which was rumored to be owned by Sachin Tendulkar, has been raised to ground and construction of a helipad being proposed has been stalled by the Defense officials, citing several anomalies for the time being.
