CBI nabs cop in ITBP promotion scam
Dehradun November 15 Virender Kumar and other three, DIG Satpal, who was posted at Dehradun, and Deputy Commandant N. Narshimrey and Assistant Commandant Somnath, who were posted at Bareilly, had been suspended from their services for being named in an FIR registered by some constables who accused the four for taking bribe for promoting unworthy constables to the posts of head constable under the Rangers Promotion Examination which took place on May 12 this year against 84 vacancies. The state government had referred the inquiry to the CBI which found irregularities at a large scale and made the first arrest in the case today. Virender, who was attached with DIG Satpal, played the role of a mediator and facilitated promotions of those who were willing to pay bribe. A cash of Rs 50,000 was also found from his bank account at that time. |

Dehradun, November 15 Prem Kumar had won a silver medal in the National Paralympics Badminton Tournament held at Bangalore in August this year. He had also participated in the Asian Paralympics Cup and the Commonwealth Paralympics games held in Australia. |
Molecular research lab to be opened on Nov 19
Dehradun, November 15 The laboratory will be able to support Mahant Indresh Hospital by conducting HIV, MDR TB and other molecular diagnostic tests and also provide research, teaching and training opportunities to students. “The laboratory is ready, with the latest equipment from Germany, and we have conducted quality assurance in cooperation with CMC, Vellore. Besides, we are expected to get accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers within a month. The process has been on for the past one and a half years,” said Dr RK Singh, Head, Biochemistry Department, Sri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences. He was addressing a press conference today. To make people aware of the role of genetics in disease, on the same day the third Asian Workshop on Genomics and Community Genetics (sponsored by the Institute Pasteur, Paris, and the Wellcome Trust, UK) will also be held. The symposium will end on November 25. |

Dehradun, November 15 In the first match, Delhi University defeated Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, by eight wickets. Rohilkhand University team won the toss and elected to bat first but were bundled out for a paltry 65 runs in 22.3 overs. MS Rawat was the only batsman who could reach the double digit with an unbeaten 15 runs. Nitin was the most successful bowler for Delhi team taking four wickets for 14 runs. In reply, the Delhi University team scored 69 runs at a loss of two wickets in 14 overs. Opener Akash scored a brilliant 51 unbeaten to steer his team to victory. In the second match, Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, won their match against Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun, by nine wickets. UTU Dehradun team won the toss and elected to bat first. The team were all out for 103 runs in 29.4 overs. Sailesh was the highest scorer with 24 runs. Navjot was the most successful bowler for Ludhiana team with a rich haul of five wickets for 14 runs. In reply, PAU scored 104 runs for the loss of a single wicket in 18.3 overs thus winning the match by nine wickets. Opener Upkardeep scored an unbeaten 45 runs. In the third match, the University of Petroleum and Energy studies, Dehradun, defeated Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, by 40 runs. UPES, Dehradun, won the toss and batting first scored 241 runs for five wickets in 40 overs. Pawan Raturi was the top scorer with an unbeaten 85 runs. Pankaj Kumar took three wickets for 39 runs for JNU team. In reply, JNU team were all out for 201 runs in 33.5 overs. Krishna Kant scored 64 runs but the team could not win the match. Abhishek Tripathi took four wickets for 15 runs for the Dehradun team. In the last match, Himachal Pradesh University defeated Kurukshetra University by 111 runs. Himachal Pradesh University won the toss and batting first scored 201 runs all out in 40 overs. Ajay Mohan scored 51 runs for the Himachal team. Mandeep took three wickets for 30 runs for Kurukshetra University team. In reply, Kurukshetra University team were all out for 90 runs in 23.1 overs. The highest scorer was Mandeep who scored 21 runs. Ajay Saklani took three wickets for 10 runs for Himachal Pradesh University team. |

Harak Singh should tender public apology: Nishank
Mussoorie, November 15 Dr Nishank, speaking to the media during his visit to the Kempty area for attending a sports function, said today that no case of corruption ever existed against him and his stand had been vindicated with the Supreme Court and the High Court clearing him of all corruption charges levelled by Harak Singh Rawat against his government. He also said if Harak Singh Rawat did not tender an apology, then all the legal options were open for him, including filing a defamation suit against him, Dr Nishank added. About contesting the elections from Mussoorie, he skirted the issue saying that Mussoorie was like home to him and he would adhere to party diktat if asked to contest the elections from here. The regional sports function was organised by the Kempty Kreeda Samiti during which several competitions were held. |
Fasting lecturers hospitalised
Dehradun, November 15 Earlier, a team of doctors and nurses had reached the spot and examined them. They had found higher levels of ketons and low blood pressure in both the
lecturers. Dr Harish Chandra Joshi, media coordinator of the mahasangh, said: “The members of the association are on protest to press for their demands of full-time appointment in government schools and removal of the posts of contractual teacher from the ambit of the public service”. |

Dehradun, November 15 In the first half, Shivalik International School scored five points while Hilton School scored seven points. In the second half, the Hilton School team played better to score 10 more points taking their final tally to 17 points whereas Shivalik International School scored a total of 13 points, losing the match by four points. The Most Promising Player of the Tournament award went to Anubhav Vohra of The Heritage School. Col SM Gusain (retd) gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up at the prize-distribution function. Principal of The Heritage School B Gill presented a memento to the chief guest. |

Book on struggle of rural women out
Dehradun, November 15 The book has detailed stories of Kamla, Anamika, Madhuli, Sitara, Mohini, Sunita, Nandi and Mangla who faced exploitation after their marriage but they showed exemplary courage and decided to walk
out. “These women were in one way or the other joined the Mahila Samakhya so we decided to render their stories in a book form. Their stories have been penned by Krishna Khurana, Kamal Joshi and Atul Sharma who not only interacted with them but also tried to live their characters,” said Geeta Gairola, State Project Director, Mahila
Samakhya. Some of the women were lucky that their family members extended support while others were not so lucky. “After my husband pronounced talaq and threw me out on the street with my children, I decided to take legal recourse,” said
Sitara. Urging women to rise against the exploitative ways of men, Krishna Khurana, who wrote about the struggle of Sunita, said women should rise against oppression and fight for their dignity.
The book was brought out as part of the year-long celebrations to commemorate the 100 anniversary of International Women’s Day. |
