Rajinder’s body brought to Amritsar

The eyes of family members, relatives and friends turned moist as soon as the coffin containing the body of Rajinder Singh, who Balwinder Singh, father of deceased Rajinder Singh, and other relatives break down in tears as his body was brought out from the airport in Amritsar was killed by a man of Arab origin at the metro railway station in Paris after he rescued a girl from being molested on September 29, was brought out from Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport here this evening.

5 held for assaulting college teacher

The police has claimed to solved an assault case here on Saturday with the arrest of five persons.

Two men, woman held in rape case

A 17-year-old maid servant was allegedly gang raped by two persons. The Khalchian police has registered a case under Sections 376 and 120B of the IPC against three persons, including a woman, who is a relative of the victim.

Rajinder’s body brought to Amritsar
The youth was killed rescuing a girl from being molested in Paris

Amritsar, October 15
The eyes of family members, relatives and friends turned moist as soon as the coffin containing the body of Rajinder Singh, who was killed by a man of Arab origin at the metro railway station in Paris after he rescued a girl from being molested on September 29, was brought out from Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport here this evening.

Balwinder Singh, father of the deceased, was inconsolable while his (Balwinder’s) brother Surinder Singh and brothers-in-law Harvinder Singh and Sukhwinder Singh were consoling him.

The deceased’s friend Ravinder Singh brought the coffin from Paris via New Delhi by an Air India flight.

Another friend Sukhchain Singh, who was present at the time of the incident, came from his native place in Kapurthala to receive the body. Narrating the eyewitness account, he said four of them - Rajinder, Amrik Singh, Bhinda and him - were returning home by metro on that fateful day. He said the Arabian youth was misbehaving with a fellow girl passenger tor which Rajinder objected.

He recalled that as soon as Rajinder alighted from the train the Arab youth pushed him on the tracks and he came into contact with live electric wires and died. He said they could not intervene as everything happened so fast.

Surinder Singh, deceased’s uncle, said Rajinder had gone to France about six years ago when he was 20 years’ old. Son of an ex-serviceman, Rajinder was a keen kabaddi player in the village. He was working as a delivery man.

Hoshiarpur’s Naib Tehsildar Harkaran Singh was among the persons who came to receive the body at the airport.

The deceased body was taken to his native village Domana in Hoshiarpur district, where it would be cremated tomorrow.

5 held for assaulting college teacher

Batala, October 15
The police has claimed to solved an assault case here on Saturday with the arrest of five persons.

Dr David Teja, Registrar of Baring Union Christian College was beaten with hockey sticks on August 27. The assailants had also taken Rs 850 from his pocket.

Talking to the media persons, SSP Gurkirpal Singh said a the police received a tip-off that five persons involved in the incident were sitting in Veer Haquiqat Rai Park.

The police team raided the park and arrested Charanjit Singh, alias Rocky, Suresh Kumar, Badri, Ajay Dogra and Jarnail Singh and recovered some weapons from them. The interrogation revealed that they had attacked Dr David Teja as he had insulted Charanjit Singh during admission time in the college.

Two men, woman held in rape case

Amritsar, October 15
A 17-year-old maid servant was allegedly gang raped by two persons. The Khalchian police has registered a case under Sections 376 and 120B of the IPC against three persons, including a woman, who is a relative of the victim.

The accused are Avtar Singh and Sukhwinder Singh of Kot Mehtab and Lakhwinder Kaur of Jhadu Nangal village.

The victim, who also belonged to Jhadu Nangal village, in her complaint stated that Lakhwinder Kaur, her paternal aunt, pursued her to get married with Avtar Singh.

On October 2 at about 8 pm, her aunt called her up at her residence and asked her to go along with Avtar and Sukhwinder Singh. They took her to a tubewell room and raped her one by one.

Gurvinderpal Singh, SHO, Khalchian police station, said Avtar Singh and Sukhwinder Singh were arrested. When asked about the delay, he said there was no delay. Earlier, the families of the victim and the prime accused were thinking of marring the two, however, it didn’t happen following which the victim’s family lodged the complaint.

Two robbers arrested

The police has busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of two persons.

The arrested persons were identified as Binderpal, alias Kali, and Amandeep, alias Mastu.

The police recovered seven stolen mobile phones from them. The arrested robbers have confessed to their involvement in several snatchings and robberies to the police.

The accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate here, who sent them to two days in the police remand.
