City youth killed in Ropar, body dumped in forest 
Ludhiana, October 15
A 22-year-old youth was killed while his childhood friend managed to escape, after they were attacked by their employees in the forest near Chamkur Sahib in Ropar late last night. Before fleeing, the killers also took away Rs 4 lakh in cash. While the friend managed to reach home, the victim’s body was recovered from the forest today morning.

MC to purchase 10 low-floor AC buses
Ludhiana, October 15
After the much-hyped City Bus Service project got delayed due to technical glitches, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) has now decided to purchase 10 low-floor air-conditioned buses directly from Ashok Leyland. These buses would reach the city by November 10. In the first phase, these would run on one route, which would cover main areas of the city.

Even as MC Additional Commissioner Kuldip Singh was transferred as Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) to Amritsar on October 2, he is yet to take charge of his office there.

Tipplers create ruckus in Jagraon
Jagraon, October 15
Residents of Ajit Nagar situated on the Tehsil Road are in a state of panic after a few tipplers created ruckus in the locality last night. This incident took place at around 8 pm when a few unidentified youths allegedly attacked a house and hurled abuses on the occupants. The youths, who were carrying arms with them, fired a few shots in the air before fleeing from the spot.

It is the most-awaited event of the year, which every married woman looks forward to celebrate for the well being and long life of their husbands. The women’s jail authorities organised a special Karva Chauth programme on the jail premises here today. This follows Jail Minister Hira Singh Gabria’s orders of allowing prisoners to meet their spouses on the festival.

600 examined at free eye camp
Jagraon, October 15
The Shaheed Udham Singh Charitable Society in association with some NRIs organised a free eye check-up camp here today. Around 600 patients from different villages of Ludhiana district were examined by doctors during the camp.
