The Batala police have arrested a person with a stolen Indica car and subsequently recovered seven more vehicles from different places at the instance of the arrested person. While talking to mediapersons here today, Paramjit Singh Grewal, the SP(D) of Batala Police District stated that Batala police have busted a gang of car thieves and recovered eight stolen vehicles.

Bank office-bearers stage dharna

On the complaint of Jagdish Singh of Himatpur, the Dasuya police has booked Devinder Singh, Inderjit Singh, Sarbjit Singh, sons of Didar Singh, and Tarsem Kaur, wife of Devinder Singh, all of the same village, under Sections 304 and 34 of the IPC.

Army recruitment rally from Oct 17 at Kapurthala

The Army will be organising an open recruitment rally at the Guru Nanak Stadium, Kapurthala, from October 17 to 22 for the categories of soldier general duty, soldier clerk or store keeper, soldier technical trades and soldier nursing assistance. In this recruitment rally, candidates belonging to the districts of Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar and Hoshiarpur can appear for the soldier general duty, whereas, the candidates belonging to the state of Punjab can appear for soldier nursing assistance, soldier technical and soldier clerk or store keeper categories. Tokens for candidates hailing from the district of Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar will be distributed at 5.30 am on October 17.

The tokens for the candidates hailing from Hoshiarpur will be distributed at 5.30 am on October 18, while the tokens for soldier clerk or store keeper, soldier technical and soldier nursing assistant candidates from all districts of Punjab will be distributed at 5.30 am October 19. The candidate appearing for the soldier general duty category should have 45 per cent marks in aggregate in their matric (10th) examination and candidates appearing for the soldier clerk or store keeper category need to have 50 per cent in aggregate in their 10+2, along with English and Mathematics as their subjects.

For the trade of soldier technical category, the candidate should have passed 10+2 in science with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as their subjects. The candidates should have passed 10+2 in science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with 50 percent marks for the soldier nursing assistant category. Defence PRO, Naresh Vig, said the candidates are required to bring their original educational certificate, residence certificate, caste certificate, character certificate, unmarried certificate and the sons of servicemen and ex-servicemen should bring their relationship certificate duly issued by respective record office with the details of their father’s number, rank, name and appointment. The candidates from Kandi area are required to bring Kandi area certificate issued by the SDM.

‘Switzerland keen to have education ties with India’

“Switzerland is very keen to collaborate with India in fields of education, particularly vocational education, and to introduce Swiss diploma in hospitality, preferably in Punjab.” This was revealed by Dr Ashwani Gupta, a Jalandhar-based chartered accountant and an expert on financial and economic matters who, has done the city proud by being a part of the recently concluded business delegation trip of President Pratibha Patil to Switzerland and Austria. Leading bankers and financial experts of the country were part of the delegation led by the President of India which, had started its week-long Switzerland-Austria sojourn last week.

While talking to The Tribune, Gupta claimed that he and the delegation solicited Swiss and Austrian investment in the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector. “The idea was well received. Dr Cristopher Juen of the Swiss Hotel Association has particularly, sought the collaboration of Indian entrepreneurs for starting of Swiss diploma in hospitality. Similarly, the presidents of Switzerland and Austria are keen to establish long-term ties in fields of education,” said Ashwani Gupta, also a director of the State Bank of Patiala.

“I am now move with the concerned indian authorities and banks and present a structured paln to these people. I am hopeful of the establishment of SME Equity Fund very shortly,” said Gutpa.

Gang of vehicle thieves busted

The Batala police have arrested a person with a stolen Indica car and subsequently recovered seven more vehicles from different places at the instance of the arrested person. While talking to mediapersons here today, Paramjit Singh Grewal, the SP(D) of Batala Police District stated that Batala police have busted a gang of car thieves and recovered eight stolen vehicles.

A special naka party received secret information that three persons, namely, Ashwani Kumar alias Badal S/O Sukhdev Raj 2 Rakesh Kumar alias Ricky S/O Ram Lubhaya, Jatinder Singh S/o Partap Singh and Harmeet Singh alias Honey, used to steal cars from different places and after forging the ownership papers they used to sell cars in the Batala and Gurdaspur areas.

A naka was held at adda Udhowal and Indica Viesta car, PB-18S-9886, was signalled to stop at which three persons tried to give the slip to the police, out of which Ashwani kumar alias Badal was arrested. He confessed that they have stolen the car from Jammu and Kashmir and subsequently, he recovered two Indica Vista, three Indigo C.S, one Ford Ikon and one Bolero car.

The police have registered a case under Sections 379, 411, 414, 420, 467, 468, 471 of the IPC at police station Sadar Batala. The value of the recovered cars is about Rs 40 lakh.

The arrest of the other accused may lead to the recovery of many more Vehicles, asserted Paramjit Singh Grewal.

Villagers complain of police inaction

Villager of Rouli Kalan near Adampur here today blamed police for not arresting the murderer, who is actually the deceased’s wife.

Addressing to the newsmen, they said, in the murder of Shaminderpal in March this year, police had registered a case of murder against the deceased’s, mother Baljit Kaur, wife Navneet Kaur, brother Sukhdawar and one Amirtpal. They alleged that Navneet Kaur has been roaming freely.

After the murder, the deceased’s mother Baljit Kaur blamed Karam Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Avtar Singh, Randhir Singh and Narinderjit Kaur of the same village for murdering her husband but later in the investigation, the deceased’s, mother Baljit Kaur, wife Navneet Kaur, brother Sukhdawar and one Amirtpal came out as murderers. “We will also file an application with the SSP Jalandhar, to arrest the deceased’s wife, Navneet, who is roaming freely despite the registration of a murder case,” they alleged. An official of the Adampur Police station said that case of murder had been registered against three persons only and there was no case against Navneet Kaur hence no arrest could have taken place. — TNS

Members of the Board of Directors of The Hoshiarpur Central Cooperative Bank and members of various cooperative societies, led by Chairman Narwinder Singh Purewal, Vice-Chairman Harcharan Singh Ghorewaha, Managing Director Gurdev Singh and others, criticised the District Manager of the bank for his alleged arrogant attitude towards bank customers and employees due to which the working of the bank was badly affecting.

They staged a dharna and rally against the manager in front of the main branch of the bank and demanded his immediate transfer. — OC

On the complaint of Jagdish Singh of Himatpur, the Dasuya police has booked Devinder Singh, Inderjit Singh, Sarbjit Singh, sons of Didar Singh, and Tarsem Kaur, wife of Devinder Singh, all of the same village, under Sections 304 and 34 of the IPC.

According to police sources, Jagdish Singh alleged that the accused pushed his wife Harbhajan Kaur from the stairs, she was sitting on, due to which she died. He alleged that there was a dispute between his wife and the accused over the living of his son-in-law with them.
